Hey guys, I made the mistake of parking near a pine tree a few days ago and didn't notice until now, but it seems to have deposited a sap 'mist' all over the car.

What is my best bet to get this off? It is all over the car, so I need some ideas that will be effective for going over the paint, windows, rubber trim, plastic, etc

Quick note about the car: It is a daily driver and my first car. It has it's fair share of dings and imperfections, so I am looking at this from a reliability perspective, not so much a show-car-finish perspective.

This is annoying because I was just preparing to clay and wax it.. The paint feels like 800 grit sandpaper and doesn't appear to have ever been waxed lol

Thanks in advance! :)

For the paint and glass, I'd use mineral spirits. I love the stuff for getting off road tar (Thanks for the tip, BobbyG!) MS can also be used on the trim, but would be concerned about it turning trim chalky and faded. I wouldn't use MS on the rubber seals. I'd be concerned about it eating them up.

If it is just a fine mist all over the vehicle a thorough hand wash will clean everything off. You may need to mix in some APC to get a little more bite out of the wash. I just detailed a Highlander Hybrid in an older neighborhood with some well established trees. In just 8 short hours my entire car was covered with the same type of sap mist (which was slightly annoying because I had just washed the truck the night before). I washed it normally when I got home with Megs Gold Glass and it took care of all the sap with no problems.

I once used a glob of chemical guys citrus wash and gloss undiluted on a thick bit of hardened on sap when nothing else worked. that took it right off. That being the case, and since your car only has a light film of sap, I would wash your car with the 1 oz per gallon paint prep dilution and hopefully that would work. And even if you dont have this particular car soap on hand, its an exellant product, and might help in the future for other sap problems

Turpentine. Like product for like problem.

You WILL have to re-wax etc afterwards.
