My carpet extractor stinks and its bad! How do you clean the smell out? Also where do you dispose of the old water at??

I don't have a carpet extractor. But I wonder if you put vinegar in the tank where the dirty water is, if that will kill the smell.

Anyone think it will work?

I was wondering if anybody else had this problem hahahaha! Mine smells like straight diarrhea sometimes. If you empty it often it doesn't get as bad, but sometimes it just stinks!

Anybody know of something you can put in the holding tank to neutralize the freaking horrible smell?

Tried it a few months ago....smells like you poured vinegar on diarrhea

there is a product on the internet called Zero Odor it works pretty well for me. i do flush it every time its used now.

I dispose of the water in the grass. Does anybody else do it differently?

I empty it as soon as I'm done using it, and always rinse out the waste tank with the water hose a couple of times after I'm done extracting.

You need to CLEAN at the end of a days use!!! If you forget to clean or cleaned something with a bad smell, clean holding tank and spray with an enzyme :detailer:

I carry 2 empty 5gal buckets with lids to put dirty water in and dispose of at home. Never at the clients.

Hope this helps

How about using that enzyme cleaner you use for pet stains, that stuff works great on urine even cat urine and poop

I don't have an extractor "yet" but I would think that a dilution of Clorox bleach and water should kill what ever bacteria is causing the foul odor. I'm assuming that the tank is plastic.

Bleach idea might work. On a side note, ever since I started using a vapor steamer I use my extractor much less. I only use it once or twice a week on the absolute worst stains. It's incredible what you can do with a steamer...and there's no dealing with nasty waste water. You do have to wash the white cotton towels though...so I guess that's the trade off.

Like some other guys mentioned, keeping the holding tank sprayed out pretty much eliminates the problem...but if you forget, the diarrhea some comes back!

lol Status. Where do you dispose of it. I use to just empty in the street before I would wash a car and the water from the car would wash it down a storm drain but I'm too scared to dump it now. I'm afraid it will stick the whole neighborhood.

Imagine having your extractor tip over 2 times in 20 minutes in your van with a full tank! I now have it in my trailer!!

:nomore: you should never dump in a storm drain. In most states you can be fined just like a carpet cleaner.

I work out of a shop so I just dump it down the drain. I don't have a drain near my extractor or I would just run a hose straight out of the back of the unit into a drain. I just bought a mobile van that I'm going to start running as well, in the Spring. I'm planning on mounting my extractor somehow so that it cant move, and then run a long hose off the back so that I can easily drain it when I return to the shop.

I can't believe that nasty stuff spilled in your van! I feel for you dude! Must have been a nightmare. I know it sounds funny when I say the stuff smells like diarrhea but it really does! Absolutely deeeeeeescusting!

My tank holds 2 gallons and I have to empty it at least twice on every car I do, especially when I have to extract floor mats. If you mount the extractor where it can't move, I would suggest some kind of mounting system that still allows you to easily remove it if you want to.

I use a larger mytee extractor...can't remember the model but it has a pretty large holding tank (5 gallons or larger) that is not removable. I can usually do 3 or 4 cars before having to empty it. There's just a valve on the back of the extractor for draining, so I think I could do a semi permanent mount in the van and just run a drain hose off the back of the unit.

I'll probably be buying the same extractor for my van because I have a buddy that owns a carpet cleaning company and he has a few sitting around that he doesn't use. He sells them to me for $750 used (with an external, 4 element mytee heater that gets super hot) I'm pretty lucky to have such a good hook up.

If I end up buying a smaller unit with a removable holding tank, I'll definitely take your advice and mount it so that it's easy to remove.
