Swirl removing has left a nasty Spot!!

Hey Guys,
I am in the middle trying to remove swirls. I am using WG 3.0 swirl remover,Porter cable DA and a CCS Smart pad orange....green and white did not seem to do the job. I have searched here for answers to no avail. I am not sure what the problem is... I do not know what marring is and can not find a picture on here and I don't know if that is what it is. I have watched all the videos and have clayed the car. I already did the roof and the 3/4 of the hood with no problems until now. It started out the size of a dollar bill. I thought I just needed to do it again. Now its the size of a sheet of paper. I went over it a total of three times (4 to 6 passes). I have cleaned the pad and spun it dry. These are the best pics I can get. 2 of the bad spot and 2 of a good spot. Both of a overhead floresant light. I am now freaking out over what in the hell I have done to my car. PLEASE HELP....yes I am a Newbie.
 
If it's getting bigger, it sounds like you've compromised the clear in that area. What kind of car is it, is it factory paint, have you had the car its whole life, did you do anything to those spots prior to the polishing?

ZR1 Vette 2010 Should be factory paint. got the car this past May. There were no spots there before.
 
That's a pretty mild combo to go through the clear on a 'Vette. Are you sure you didn't get your pad saturated and it's just polish residue? Have you tried removing it with some QD? It's hard to really see it in the pictures, but sometimes you can get some gummy residue with overworked polish.

Just tried it and no go. As I said the roof and most of the hood no problems.
 
From what you wrote, you said you did the roof and 3/4 of the hood with no problems. So, it sounds like at first you were fine, then this. Maybe you need to change your pad? Was all the prior work on the same pad as this? I would maybe try a little bit of a less aggresive polish / or maybe the same polish by hand with a microfiber on a small part to see if it "polishes" away. By small, I mean pick out a 2" x 2" section to focus on. maybe even tape it off to create a "hard line" so you have a drastic surface change to compare it to.

If its getting better, you know its just marring. If its getting worse, it may be strike through the clear coat, but from what your saying it doesnt seem like that is what it is. It's hard to see, but color wize it kind of does look like the base coat (same color but duller), but the patern doesnt look like it to me.

If you did all your previous work with the same pad leading up to this, it's likely the pad has spent polish and abraded clear coat on it and needs to be washed or changed, so the pad is now causing maring/hazing.

Just, dont freak out and try anything drastic. That is when stuff really goes wrong.

Since I am a (Newbie) I only bought one of each color pad in the six pack starting with orange down to red. Yes all was done with the same pad and I did the clean on the fly method. after the second attempt to get rid of it I washed and dried the pad. tried again to no avail. I only have the 3.0 swirl remover and the enhancer along with the glaze and paint sealant and fusion. I am in my garage....but it is 95 in the sun....will that have anything to do with it?

Would I just use a micro towel or a wax applicator to do what you suggest? Hand would be better than machine?
 
Unless the clear in that area is exceptionally thin, I can't imagine that you breached the clear doing only 4 to 6 passes with Wolfgang Swirl Remover....

You say it started about the size of a dollar bill.....how long had you been compounding before you noticed the defect?

Since you've already done the roof and 3/4 of the hood I'd say your process is sound and you shouldn't have seen any issues...

Don't go crazy here...If you did breach the clear a paint shop can fix that in a day and add some extra clear...

Probably more like 4 or 5 passes. After the 1st time when I did the wipe.
I have tried the by hand...no good. Put some paint polish enhancer on it...no good. I see yall talking about orange peel on here....it does have a hint of that look to it...but I will need to search to see what that is. So your saying if it is clear coat they can fix....would they just do that spot(no experience with a paint shop)? I reckon I just cant have anything nice....now I am scared to go any further..still have the rest of the hood and the rest of the car.
 
It is very hard to see in your pictures but it looks like its overspray or orange peel. I'm thinking that at some point has been repainted. It's hard to tell for sure. I would take it to a good paint shop and have them look at it to see if it's clear failure or maybe needs wet sanded to smooth it out. It's possible that it was glazed and hidden then when you polished it you removed the glaze and now it shows. Have a paint professional look. I'm with everyone else, WG TSR is not supper aggressive so I doubt you have buffed through the clear.

If you share where you are located there may be another forum member or pro detailer someone knows in your area that can look at this for you and properly evaluate the problem area.

I can't imagine what happened and I'm sure you're quite upset at the moment. Hopefully, someone may have gone though this before and can help. If not, I would bring it to a reputable body shop to see if they can correct it. Perhaps they can fix it. I would also inform the body shop of what you used and the procedure you used.

It's sounds strange that beginning went well and then this?

Keep us posted. You never know when someone else may go through the same thing.
 
I'm a complete noob also, but it looks like something has eaten away at your clear. This looks (to me) like the same sort of damage that you get from things like bird crap eating into your clear.

Hope this post didn't just add more confusion.

Upset for sure...Wife said I have busted a vessel in one of my eyes. She told me to chill (and she's the one that got it for me) Its killing me to wait for people to respond. Now I will have to drive it NEKED (the car not me) to a paint shop next week.They should be open NOW waiting on me to show up..lol

It looks pitted to me too...I have no idea...I had 3 black Mustang Cobras before this and this is the 1st time in 47 yrs I have ever used a machine....and look what I have uncovered....can you say Damn!!!!:mad:
 
I know the feeling. Way back when I started in IT, I made a mistake and couldn't wait for the weekend to end so I could get the issue resolved.

I know it's hard right now to think everything will turn out ok but I'm sure you will be feeling better once you know what happened and it's fixed.

Thanks everyone who has tried to help. If anyone has ideas or knows whats the deal please post it...I will keep checking this.
