Considering dg501 for dd

I'm hoping to get a DA of some sort in the next couple of months. Are the results from using a da with dg501 worth the wait or should I go ahead and apply by hand? Also, I live in Nebraska so I'm curious if this or 845 would provide the best protection during the winter? I'd like to get the white to pop as much as it can but am willing to put something else on as winter approaches for max protection if dg501 isn't going to cut it. Thoughts?

After cleaning / polishing with Duragloss 501 apply a coat of Duragloss 601 primer then top with Duragloss 105 sealant. This will provide some long lasting durable protection. Topping with Collinite 845 will only add depth and additional protection for a long hard New England winter.....:props:

Bobby in that last pic is that a little ramp to park on so you can dress the whole tire?

Yes it is! When I can, I prefer to work in the shade and take advantage of the room, breeze, light, and fresh air. To access the whole tire I built these portable ramps.

The ramps are constructed using a 4' 2X8 for the base, a 3' 2X4 to support the tire, and a small stop block on the end. They work great!! :props:

You guys are about to make me try 501/601/105. I understand the theory of the 601 bonding agent. However, if one were (for whatever reason) wanting to add second layer of 105 (old school, not mixing the 601 with it) ... would one apply a second coat of 601 (before the second coat of 105)? Or is there something in 601 that would remove part of the first layer of 105?

Thanks!

I had the same question. I asked Richy, our in house expert on Duragloss and he said it wasn't a problem to put the 105/601 over the previous coat of Duragloss.

If Richy said it, it's true! :props: he is in close communications with the good folks at Duragloss and has talked to the chemist himself.

The cleaners in 601 are not enough to remove previous layers of DG products. If you lay down another coat of 105 without 601, you just have to wait about 12 hours before you top it with anything. The whole deal with 601 is to flash cure the polymers found in the DG line - 101, 105, 111, 501 so that you don't have to wait 12 hours.

If you decide to go old school, just apply 601 by hand with light pressure and allow to haze. Next, apply 105 in the same manner and allow to haze, then remove. Keep in mind that sometimes DG products "disappear" into the paint, you still need to wipe down the panels. Stubborn areas can be addressed with Fast Clean & Shine or Aquawax, or simply by a damp micro fiber towel.

Excellent news. Thank you for the replies and information.

Richy and rwright are the godfathers of Duragloss products!

go purchase all the duragloss line and enjoy the shine!

Thanks for the input guys. I'm on vacation and haven't had the chance to reply like I usually do.

501/601 with a DA and a white pad will serve you well. Top it with 105/601 for better protection and for the grand-slam, home run, follow those 2 up with Colli 845. Your white paint will glow and look amazing for a long time!

Meh, Richy can have all the glory, he took me to school on DG. I'm just another satisfied user. ;)

Thanks for all of the great info! I hope to put it to use soon. For future reference, what speed would you run the da at for applying these products?

501 at 4-6 depending on your machine. 105 and Colli at 3 or 4.

Just clayed wifes DD and just put on my first coat of 501/601.

Looks awesome and the paint is silky smooth. Waiting a little while then going with 105/601.

Tomorrow I'm going to lay some Collinite 915 down and she should be rock hard.

I thought the 501/601 smelled like someone got a "perm". Smelled like that liquid they used to put on hair for perms.

She has silver/pewter Ford Fusion and it really looks great. She has some scratches in it that are a little more noticeable now. Not swirls, but scratches you can feel with the finger nail. :(

Used mother's clay kit and thought it was great. Probably used more than half of the detailer spray though.

How long would you wait before applying the 845?

Have seen on other duragloss threads threads that if u do the 4:1 mix with 601 u can put another coat of 111/601 or105/601 within 2 hours but wait 12 hours to put carnauba wax on. Came from chemist supposedly at duragloss.

It's me that published that original thread, and, yes, the info came from Jerry Bailey. If you mix 105/601, you can immediately top it with Colli. I've done it many times.

If I put a coat of 501/601, can you still put colli right on? Or does that only work with 105?

Absolutely. Go around the car with it and then do a swipe test on the first panel. If dry, remove then immediately follow up with Colli.

How much dg501 product is necessary to put on the pad? Prime it by covering the face of the pad and then a few extra drops, or are just a few dime size drops on a dry pad sufficient?

It doesn't take much. A few dime sized drops and smear it around the pad and then smear the pad around a small area with the machine off at first.

White pad works pretty well for really light swirls?
