???makita brushes???

Ok guys I hope someone can help with this?? I went to check the brushes on my buffer and hey great there still like new.. then I go to put them back in and the brass wire that connects the brush to the round metal piece you know inside the spring? It Broke wtf so my question can it be dropped in and used or do I have to wait till the new ones get here :'( ?? Sort for no pictures

Oh sorry for not saying it but it actually does work/run the plastic covers get real hot though is this gonna lead to damage or is it ok because as you said it should not be running Idk?
