paint sealant for glass?

I used Jetseal 109 on glass, per instructional video on Chemical Guys website, works great, beads/sheets water like mad. Going to use Menzerna Powerlock 2 coats, before winter, on glass and headlights/foglights.
 
Like many here I waxed and sealed glass for years but something that's apparent is the relatively short lifespan of either product. Neither sealant or wax is specifically developed for glass they simply don't bond well and wear off quickly.

Since I tried Aquapel, I've migrated away from using either product. Aquapel was designed for use on glass therefore it lasts for 5 to 6 solid months through a long hard New England winter. :props:

do you put this on the windshield too bobbyg?
 
I'm not Bobby G but I did sleep at a holiday inn last night!

In case he doesnt revisit this thread, yes he uses it on his windshield as well. My buddy Tad does also and reports the same results.

Hi Bob!

1.- Not sure why that happened but probably won't happen twice. If you buffed it all off it shouldn't come back. With some high content Nuba you can get "sweating" after you buffed it all off but I wouldn't expect it from 845.

2.- In my opinion there's no reason to use the paintwork cleaner on the glass unless you are just trying to remove old wax or sealant. It would work fine for that but you my as well just use M105 on the glass. I guess it's all good really. What you did is fine and shouldn't have an issue. Using paint cleaners or paint polishes on glass won't remove any swirls or cut the glass at all but they can remove topical water spots easily.

I also experienced this using 845 on windshield.

Interesting!! Thanks for the info! So maybe 845 on glass doesn't work out eh? I've never been a fan of the product so I guess one more thing for me not to like :laughing:

If you seal you windshield with 845. You will notice hazing of glass when it rains or when the temP is cold. I use klasse aio or optiseal on glass.
 
I think this should make it overrated product of the year! I do mean that... In my opinion the only thing it excels at is being cheap.

I sincerely apologize to all the 845 lovers... No offense, just my opinion and experience. Well... 3 experiences total with it... None of them good.

It's a good and cheap product. There are pros and cons. The shine it gives is ok. For me, it can't match the looks of p21s 100. 845 is easy on easy of. But i need to warm or heat up the bottle before application using my pcxp

My problem area with Coll 845 seemed to only be the windshield.
The side and back windows seemed fine.

But, I'm experimenting with some other product for use on windows.

it works great on my tablesaw top, and that the only place I use it

Well, not sure why you would use 845 on glass, the manufacturer states to not do so. That's like saying I used a butter knife for surgery and it didn't work out well, therefor it must be the fault of the product.

If you use a product that's an AIO, like PB PwS on glass, it will remove water spots and accumulated junk on the glass, and leave a hydrophobic layer of protection behind. I do this all the time with a LC hand polishing pad. Nothing gets glass cleaner and spot free

Seems any nuba product can leave behind a "greasy look" to it, sorry, hard to explain but if this helps, when you go to wash your car and then dry it off, the glass looks smudged, so since using the modern sealants I have not had this problem anymore.

I agree with the one previous poster about seeing how long till I need to turn on the wipers, LOL. Going freeway speeds w/ steady rain means no wipers on and I've got Bosch Icon's too!

I put 845 on all my glass on my DD including the t-tops, which I feel need the most protection because they are more prone to water spots. It's been about a month and the side windows and back window all bead water great, but the t tops and front windshield beads are beginning to fade away now..

I agree - I don't use carnauba-based products on the windshield, they've never worked well for me on there.

Yes I do! In fact, each application contains enough product to treat the windshield and side windows...

After giving the windshield a thorough washing, I apply Aquapel to it by following the simple directions included with the product. It has a relatively strong acetic acid odor so don't up it up to your nose once you snap the case releasing the product into the applicator pad...
 
I avoid BFWD on glass. I had a problem using it. Once the windows got dirty and I used a strong glass cleaner on them, there was an unusual amount of oil on them once I started cleaning them that just pushed around a lot. It was tough to get the windows clear with 1 or 2 applications. After that I really began to understand the difference between paint sealants and glass sealants. True glass sealants I noticed are not oily (like bfwd) and usually have really strong drying agents to make them bond hard and dry (which is why they smell of solvent really badly).
 
Not doubting you MB but I can't say I've had the same issue with paint sealant on glass, I wonder if something was on the road when it was wet and got all over things?

I need to just get some of the Griot's glass sealant and try it out myself to see how a designated glass sealant does compared to using paint sealant on glass. I'll chose Griot's for this because NOTHING has ever let me down from them and they just came out with it, so if Richard says its ready for the market, it must be;-)

I have never tested it on glass....

Doesn't change my opinion of it. My comment about not liking 845 for my personal use has nothing to do with glass. It has to do with the fact that there are many sealants that last just as long and are much easier to work with.
