From the snow and salting on Monday! The FNW can't get here fast enough but more snow this evening, so it's going to be even worse

Kinda funny, really...all the time, money, effort and aggravation to get it to a decent place aesthetically and 70 miles of freeway driving snatches it all away in the blink of an eye.

Car is filthy, but I finally broke down and put winter tires on. After dealing with chains for 3 weeks last winter I'm now one of those people tearing up the roads.

Oh...you're one of those guys, lols. Michigan banned studded tires long ago, so when we moved out here to Beaverton and saw studded tires it was immediately clear, in part, why the roads are in such disrepair. Fortunately, I haven't had the need to use studded tires or chains, yet...

4” of snow on Monday and another 5-7” coming today

I was (and am) a rabid anti-stud guy. Been in Portland for 25 years. Have never needed them and don't get why other people have them.

However... I live at 1000'. Doesn't sound like much, but in winter it's a whole different world up here. And I live on one of the steepest streets in Portland. And my wife is a first responder. When conditions are the absolute worst she has to get to work. So she has no choice and has to drive in the worst possible conditions to get to work (and then drive those conditions at work).

Last winter we were pretty well frozen in a couple of times. The city put barricades at the top of our street and closed it - nothing could get down it and some emergency vehicles got stuck. We became the defacto medical transport for the neighborhood. Chained up 4 wheels over snow tires. One person in the middle of chemo we took into town several times. No other way she could have gotten there. One medical emergency we had to take to the top of the hill to meet the ambulance. And what's crazy is that we were frozen in up here when the roads were perfectly clear 5 mins away from us.

I don't expect that the studs will eliminate the need for chains when we get ice. But I'm hoping to reduce the number of times I'm chaining up. Chains we on and off 20 or more times last winter. Not pleasant.

(Sorry for the rant - got defensive about running road wreckers on my car.)

Man, that's wicked, dude. You live up around Washington Park area? I remember that area being rekt last year with the snow. Fortunately, I live in Beaverton and while the roads were slippery, it wasn't bad at all.

BTW, good work on helping out the neighbors...

One of the nicest rides on our site

I used to live in Royal Oak and worked in Farmington Hills...I miss the snow now that I'm out here in Oregon...

If I could send it to you I would . It doesn’t snow in Oregon?

Off Skyline above Forest Heights.

Not a lot. Usually an inch or two every year. Every 6-7 years we get a 1-3'. The issue is that it shuts everything down. People literally just abandon their cars. It's like the apocalypse hit - people just give up and walk away. I'm not kidding. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of cars had to be towed off the freeway last year because people just abandoned them. The snow is not bad. Not sure why people here can't manage it.

The bigger issue is freezing rain. You can't even walk on it, much less drive. Just bad news all the way around. We usually get a few days of that every year. That's why I have studs. I love driving in the snow. I would be happy never having to drive in freezing rain for the rest of my life.

After her first Rinseless Wash. Several Days of driving around in cold salted roads left her looking like she drove through a pile of baby powder.
