Almost Called Police On Detail Job UPDATE

I'm not sure if the BBB will have anything to do with this. Are you a licensed business? I can't even join the BBB until I have been in business for a full year and have the paper work to prove it.

If your doing this on the side than this is the type of stuff you will deal with from time to time. Your taking a chance on him and he's taking a chance on you. It sounds like a civil matter.
I'm not a licensed business, I am a community college student who is trying to make money on the side to support tuition for when I transfer to a 4-year school next year. I am passionate about detailing and I was passionate on the job that I did for this guy as I did a good job on the car but just didn't compound it. I feel this is unfair a hard working college student and I feel that he is taking advantage of me because of my age.

Tell that to the police.

Sean, I appreciate your passion for detailing and working while getting your education. It would be so easy to let this get you bogged down and that will not be good for you.

If it will help, pm me with your address and I will send you some funds to help defray the cost of this detail and you can learn from this and move on.

I would put this behind me and never look back. With your determination and passion, you have much in your future to look forward to.

That won't be necessary, thank you so much for your support and everyone's support here on autogeek. Although this incident really dragged me down and has caused me much depression over the past few days I am going to put it behind me. People like this do not deserve me wasting time thinking about them, I need to focus more on getting new customers instead of thinking about this guy. I am not going to retaliate or pursue getting the extra money, I am going to put this behind me and hopefully this guy will stop bothering me soon. Thank you for your support, it means a lot to a young entrepreneur.

You're doing the right thing. But, if you change your mind I know a few pipe-hittin brothas who will get medieval on them. Just give them the $60. Jk

Very good reasoning on your part, let it go move on and move forward.Sorry you had a bad experiance but we all do at some point.
I wish you success in life and school and in detailing!

They are yankin' your chain about calling the BBB............If they continue to hassle you give me the son's telephone # and I will HAVE A FRIENDLY CHAT WITH HIM. :nomore:

Sounds like the right decision. The good thing is these type of people show up rarely. Hopefully you won't ever have to deal with this again

@ezriderga....I had a tough week with detailing. I will PM you my address and you can send the funds you were going to send to Sean my way

:)

I, too, have been keeping up with your original thread and now this one. What a crap situation you are dealing with. I have to agree with some members here and just stop answering their calls. Hopefully, they leave a message that will make them look bad.
I'm glad you decided to move on. It is not worth the trouble to continue dealing with these people. Take it as a loss and never look back. Good luck to you and keep us updated.

A little advice on dealing with a bit of crazy over the phone. First, dont let it go to voice mail, as most people arent stupid enough to act crazy when they know theyre being recorded. Purchase a cheap recorder and record both ends of the conversation on your own.

This will be of great use if something does happen, but i can promise you that the police will do nothing to them no matter what they threaten you with, something has to happen first.

I would also make a police report of anything that is happening, if you feal threatened, you need to document it,. Even tho the police wont do anything to them for threats, having documentation of the threats and actions will be useful if they are dumb enough to do something.

Wish you the best, dont let it get you down.

Shawn

There are always people out to complain about something.
IMO I wouldn't answer the phone calls. Id let them go to voicemail and if he is dumb enough to leave you some nastygrams then you have something on him. If it continues and the calling is non stop then you have harassment by communications.

The thing about having a recorder going while you are on the phone with the person is that its against the wire tap act and could not be used in a court setting. Though a good idea in some instances it wouldn't go far in the court setting.

I would say let it go, forget about it, and move on. Should things escalate to something more serious like threatening phone calls, continuing harassment, or anything of that nature save and or print out a log from the phone company for your records and for the police to see so that it can be noted in a report and for a judge should you have to go that far.

I hope that nothing goes further and the guy stops. Once he sees you are not bothered by his remarks hopefully he will give up, move on, and you can go about your everyday.

Good luck keep us posted!!

If this joker was calling you on your cell phone, you might be able to block the number. I'm able to do this with Verizon anyways.

Try not to let it bother you, though I realize that is sometimes easier said that done. They aren't going to call the BBB and they aren't worth wasting any more thought on.

I would get even with them, but not right now. Wait a few months then do something nasty to them.

Sounds like you are dealing with either 'get something for nothing' or a 'few cards shy of a full deck' people (or both). You probably should report this to the police, if nothing else, they may be able to give you advice on how to proceed.

No matter how tempting, do not retaliate, it will only make matters worse, and you'll probably get in trouble.

I commend you for your work ethic, and your ability to handle this unfortunate situation. Experience can be a cruel but lasting education.

Under no circumstances would I go back to the area if it is in a 'bad neighborhood'. You quite probably would be walking into a trap, and you'll lose.

I doubt the BBB can/will do anything about a complaint if you are not a business. The people can mount a smear campaign, but anyone who listens to them, you wouldn't want to do business with anyway.

Let your work with your honest clients speak for you.

Good luck in all your endeavors.

Just curious, where are you located?

I know how this kinda stuff can affect you, try as hard as you can to put it behind you. It is difficult to do, but it will go away.

Keep you head in the education game, that is THE most important item on the agenda.

Bill

What are you studying?

From now on, record all phone conversations, back them up on your PC, get them to sign an invoice showing work performed before starting.

I agree with the others that this guy is a 'get something for nothing' type, bullies people like this all the time to get cheap/free stuff, and unfortunately has taught his kid the same techniques.

Personally, I would call the police, explain that you were ripped off and threatened - ask them to meet with you to collect the rest of your money. But I am lucky as my cousin is a highly decorated local officer, war hero, and just dropping his name would get me on their good side.

Actually that is not true. The law states that 1 person on the recording has to be aware of the recording, not every party. Since he would be doing the recording of himself and someone else, it is legal and can be used in court...or at least could be a few years ago, as my wife and i had to do so.

You can also notify them politely that you are recording, so that 'you dont get orders mixed up and everything is performed correctly' just like they asked.

If they have a problem with that, they may not be trustworthy.
