Are there any smaller volume shop vacs that have good suction? I wanted a dedicated vac for my vehicles and bought a small volume vac and it is worthless. So I guess to get good suction do I have to have large volume vac?

No there are small shop-vac and rigid vacs that have 6 HP motors

you could go to walmart or any other major retailer and get a 5-6hp shop vac there, they have the suction of about halve the vacuums they offer at most car washes. I use them for my personal vehicles and they perfect. They don't suck the carpet too much where you have to pull it off the carpet too much. And they can pull dirt and debris from under the seats. All in all they are the best commercially available vacuum under $100 dollars.

I got this one to use for blowing off my car and I used it on a mobile job once so far. I thought it did WELL for its size. I would recommend it but it may not be enough for extracting water.

I have the WD4070. It is ok (around 45 inches of water lift). It is reasonably quiet, can get the upgraded hose kit, and nice long power cord. I would get something with more suction if I were getting a new one.

I tend to use the metro for just carpets due to superior suction (just less capacity) but then the metro is not wet/dry.

I ended up getting a powr-flite pf51 on sale with free shipping for a few dollars more than what a shop vac would have been with tax locally. Hopefully I like it. Does anybody know if the hose is a standard size and can use other companies attachments?

It's a 1 1/2" hose, the ends seem to have a similar brand specific coupling to the tank and wand (maybe new style Ridgid?). Might need to get an coupling adapter to use other hoses with it.

If you do not need a wet vac, the Hoover guv at 129 is very good. I use it 2 to 3 times a day and it has outlasted the metro I had. 30 ft. Hose, tremendous suction. It is portable too.
