7414xp head speed

I've used my pc 7424xp a several times and love it, but for some reason I dont think I'm getting the proper rotation from my pad. I found a few links on here (cant find anymore) and it tells you to put a black sharpie line on the backing plate. I did this and when I apply a wax it doesn't spin as freely as I would think with little to no pressure. It's almost like I cant even use the xp's own weight. Am I doing something wrong or is this correct. Any video links with the sharpie line would be great. Dont get me wrong, it spins but just not as smooth as I would think, especially since the sharpie line makes it so visible

When applying 'wax' you really don't need rotation. You actually don't need rotation for 'wax'. Just the random action does great job of doing the job.

When using a DA for 'polishing' you will be using a lot more pressure on the machine (15# or so), that will cause the pad to 'rotate'.

It just the nature of the beast, in fact with ultra light pressure it is NOT unusual to see the pad go 'backwards'.

For machine apply a finishing wax you want to be on the 4 setting for a PC, for just about everything else you want to be on the 6 setting.

For removing swirls apply firm pressure. For machine applying a finishing wax apply light pressure. IF you apply no pressure but the pad is against the paint the pad will tend to flutter instead of rotate. If you see this simply push down and you'll see the pad start to rotate.

For cleaner/waxes, treat them like a compound or polish , that is the 6 setting with firm pressure.

Be sure to clean your pad often when doing correction work.
