Official Invitation to MIKE PHILLIPS! - Accepted!

Re: Official Invitation to MIKE PHILLIPS!!!!!! - Invitation Accepted!

I was thinking rare chevelle as well, 70 ls6. Then I read where they are putting a newer style ls motor in this car and that would just be wrong in a ls6 or z16. I'll guess its a Beamont or an Acadian. You dont see to many canadian cars done up.
If it`s an LS-6 (which I doubt because of value) then you pull the drive train and store it.I thought of the Canadian and Aussy cars too and then reread the thread and he says " American made".The anxiety ensues!!!:hungry:

I missed the post about the newer motor and yeah, it would be a shame to do that to an original LS6 car or Z-16 but remember they said the car was an old race car, so the originality of the car is long gone by now, I think, so that leaves it open to things for sure.

My original guess was a 62' "bubbletop" Bel-Air as they said it was an old race car but then they said it was rare, not sure how many "bubbletops" were made compared to the Impala and it also could have something to do with the fact that its one of my top 5 classics of all time too, LOL! Then I thought about the rarity angle and went with the Z-16 Mailbu which only 201 were made. Back then, they didn't care about "rare" cars and it could very well have been a drag car since it was a mid-size car with a BB in it and the first year for the BB Chevy and no, the 348/409 wasn't considered a BB per say from what I learned through the years by listening those who were there at the time. I also brought up the fact about the 63' Z-11, another "rare" car built for racing after the self imposed ban and without looking it up right now, IIRC, the 409 was punched out to 427 cubes but I changed my guess to the 65' Z-16 and will stick with it.

Is there going to be a prize for the correct guess Mike?

Re: Official Invitation to MIKE PHILLIPS!!!!!! - Invitation Accepted!

HUGE thank you to Wes...

Wes took it upon himself to get High Speed Internet hooked up at the shop so we can do live broadcasts from the shop.

I'm not 100% sure but wont' this be another first in our industry? That is the first time anything like this has been done?

To be specific, we're broadcasting the real deal, this isn't no mock-up, we're really going to wetsand, cut and buff a brand new custom "House of Kolor" paint job on a very cool muscle car AND share live video feed of the process over the Internet for anyone in the world to watch?

Has this ever been done by anyone else on any other website or discussion forum?

As soon as you have the link please post.
I have never seen anything done like this before on any forum and I am part of many.

Will the link to the "guess the car" be put in here? If not, which forum will it be in, thanks!

***Update***

Wes sent Yancy and I pictures of the car as it came out of the paint booth this morning, it's completely apart. It's also as black as can be...

Doors, glass, trunk lid, hood are all off and the body is on a roll-around dolly with no suspension.

We're talking COMPLETELY apart...

This will make sanding and buffing around all the edges a lot easier...

I wish I could share the pictures...

:D

"As black as black can be".....so its like a non-metallic MB paint job then?

Can't wait to see what the car is, some good guess' on the other thread, as well as some funny ones too! Looking forward to seeing the car and hearing the stories!

You may have just given a hint.

Kind of but many of the muscle cars back then didn't have a normal steel frame like your 1957 Chevy has, they were unibody construction.

No metallic, just pure black...

Looks good...

It's a solid Polyurethane Enamel. No metallics. I've painted a 2001 Camaro SS HOK Jet Black before :dblthumb2:
