Not sure where I should've posted this here, but I just got my Dr Colorchip Kit today, via AutoGeek.

God, what a joke, within seconds, the color match is so screwed up, you'd swear I was asking for touch up paint for the Ronald Reagan Battelship!

My Tahoe is Summit White, or Also called Olympic White. Whichever, it's a pure white, and this crap they sent me is Battleship Grey. Does my Tahoe in my Avatar look like Battleship Grey?! Freaking dopes!

Now this begs the question, because about 5 years ago, I ordered some touch up paint from some online entity, and I'm getting a very strong "Deja Vu" here.

That I'm getting a flashback to back then, with this other company, who sent me the exact same crap, the exact same color to a "T", to the very exact "wrong" shade.

So, I ask, are there any here who knew who used to sell touch up paint in a long, slender bottle back then? I'm talking about 4"-5" long, skinny, like a 1/2" in diameter bottle? Was this them?

If so, I'm in for a nightmare of a runaround, with mismatched colors from now till the 4th of July.

Know what I did with that past $40 order? Threw it all in the Garbage Can.

If Dr Colorchip pulls that crap with me, they're going to have a problem!

I've got some Dupicolor touch up paint, that I got from Autozone not long ago. Maybe it might help, if I ship this bottle off to these colorblind people, and they can maybe discover what white paint supposed to look like!

Dammit, I'm pissed with this runaround I'm about to go through with AG, and this Stevie Wonder Company.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

Let me add, before there's any confusion, or where any blame lays.

The order, was placed with Autopia, not AG. Although I am aware they are both PBMG.
Either of course are not to blame, they did their jobs admirably, so there's absolutely no blame there, they don't mix the paint, it must be the fellow by the name of Jose Feliciano. (come on baby light my fire!)

Like I said, for a buck or so for postage, it might be best to ship the touch up paint, the Duplicolor I got from Auto Zone to them, so they can see firsthand what white paint supposed to look like.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

What did JESUS have to do with it?I doubt he was the chemist that day.

Not sure what to say to your response? Are you offering me help?

See the truck. Does the truck look grey? Or does it look white?

How does Olympic White turn into grey paint in a bottle?

What screwed up color code system gives them gray paint, when its supposed to be white?

Dammit, I see the ending here, $60 down the toilet. Not happy, not at all.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

I had a similar problem with Dr. Colorchip. They were very accommodative and worked with me until the paint matched perfectly. I would suggest you just call them and explain to them nicely what your problem is and I am sure they will resolve the issue.

yikes...

have you thought about going to the dealer for the paint? I cant imagine they would get it wrong....use the rest of the dr. colourchip system with the dealer supplied touch up paint that should be (mind you there is some ageing on your vehicle's paint the same paint colour.

Here a pic. Does the truck look grey? This paint they mixed is actually grey.

Are they going to tell me, "Oh, it will lighten in color after you apply it? No thanks, I've gone down this same familiar road before, and I'm betting good money with the same company I dealt with 5 years ago.

Did thier paint back then just happen to come in a skinny metal Bottle? If so, then I've got the same people to deal with.

If not, then my apologies, but I'm sure getting one big funny feeling this end.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

I'm assuming that you shook the small bottle of paint for several minutes. I've seen paint separate and I was surprised what shades each layer was.

On another note and a bit of sarcasm, oh my God, you are writing something negative about a product on a forum. Don't you know that you will be burned at the stake, flamed and banned. You are supposed to praise everything, see everything as perfect and turn a blind eye.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

Order things like that thru DuPont. Trust me when I tell you that you get what you pay for when it comes to things like that. Shine On

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

I ordered once through dr Colorchip themselves. The order was missing a few things but their customer service was great and corrected the problem without questions. Hopefully if you call them directly you can get the same great service, hopefully they won't tell you to go back and forth with autopia instead.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

Sorry to hear about your luck with the Dr Mark

I have had excellent results with Dr Color chip. The paint blended perfectly with my Mercedes paint and looks as good as factory. I found that using the 2nd bottle to blend in the paint really made the difference.
I have a lighter paint color which may be an easier paint to blend

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

They worked with me until the paint matched perfectly.

I hope I don't have to work with them. Buying paint that works out to just over $12K for a gallon of paint, I would hope someone selling the product can get it right.

Maybe I should open up my Dr. ColorChip kit to see how well it matches my paint.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

I just did send a very "nice" letter to the Dr Colorchip folks.

In response to a poster here, yes indeed, I shook the bottle until I was blue in the face.

I may be blaming the wrong people for this deja vu that I'm getting, but something triggered this feeling I get, that I've been down this same road, with the very same people from my bad experiences years ago?

As I gather, Dr Colorchip's blending formula is not going to work, with any paint from Dupont, Duplicolor, or anyone else.

Bottom line is, I might have to again toss the entire experience to toiletville, forego any fancy stuff, and go back to old fashioned methods, with Auto Zone, wet sand paper, and polish compounds.

I'll be a week on my back on a creeper dealing with the road rash from this gravel infested state known as New Mexico, which is still in the 1870's.

I know I can get decent results with these last methods I mention, but I better get to liking laying on a creeper, I'm gonna be there for a month of sundays.

Re: Dr Colorchip, Jesus H Christ!

A few years back I ordered from a company called "Paintscratch" with much the same results. The one time I managed to get ahold of someone there it was a guy with a high pitched voice on a cell phone who told me I did not know what I was talking about and to not call anymore and he hung up on me, I have a local autofinish supply store in my city that will make a 2 oz bottle or a spray can to order and guarantee the match.

I can perhaps try to look into such options, but forgive me if I'm not sounding too optimistic about it down here in this "Land of Enchantment, which is akin to the movie "Brother where art thou", where we're "two weeks" from everywhere here.

Thank God I'm not looking for "Dapper Dan Pomade"! LOL

I used to deal with good paint supply shops back in Illinois (Keytone), they'd mix anything for you, exterior, or interior colors to match, in bottle, or spray can

I have nothing to offer on Dr. Colorchip except maybe you could have chosen different terminology than "JESUS . C....." on the eve of his birth.I understand that the paint does not match and I will go out on a limb and say that I hope they guarantee your complete satisfaction or your money back.MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy Holidays.

THAT, looks like "the" company I dealt with those many years back!

Their vid on thier website shows those same litlle skinny metal bottles of touch-up paint.

So firstly, I should perhaps offer some apologies in part, that this does not look like the Dr Colorchip People, who gave me a nightmare of a runaround many years ago.

Odd though, that the paint has the exact same hue I clearly remember

Thats them. I even sent them a piece of bumper cover to match to. The car was gold, the paint they sent was brown. Four dollars at the local Toyota dealer got me a 1 oz bottle that matched perfectly. Those long skinny tubes were felt tipped applicators.

The reason they had to work to get the paint to match is because it is a Lexus
Matador Red Mica tricolor paint. I have since talked to a number of painters
and they have all said it is a very difficult paint to match. My point was only to
say that they did not blow me off and they kept trying until I was satisfied. I am
sure they will do the same for everyone.
