next machine

Thanks rmagnus that makes alot of sense. I would love to try the 3401 and the pe 14 from Flex, but right now I'm leaning heavily towards the dewalt 845, it has the nice price attraction.

Yep I agree. You should make a post for AGO members close to you and see if they have a polisher you could try out. Most everybody here tries to be helpful. Some have more expierence in certain areas than others and passing along good info helps everbody.

Personally I think you'd be hard pressed to beat the quality of the Dewalt RB mine is the older 845 the newer model is the Bumble Bee. Basically they are the same. Either will serve you well. Tons of pad and backing plates are available.

I like doing business with AG two of my 3 buffers came from them. They run a lot of sales and even if I don't get the lowest price the education and info here makes it all worth while. Join their VIP Club. Also having at least 2 buffers is good insurance something about "Murphys Laws". If one goes down you have a back up.
Now go buff something and post it for us to see :buffing:

Today at the detail expo I used first hand the Flex 3401 and the Rupes 15 and the 21. All three are very nice tools. I currently own a PC that's what I started with in oct, I love it,had one problem with it but it was human error. I can see the next tool I purchase will be the flex 3401. Because of the force rotation. I'm not discarding the Rupes by no means. It's a great tool. In the future I can see more tools in my arsenal .

If you are getting the results you want, with the tool you have.... Then the only thing left is to work on your technique! ;)

The old saying, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" comes into play here. We can buy all the fancy tools in the world, but until we know how to get the most from what we have, then in the end, the only thing that matters is "the finish".

There really isn't a big difference between what the machines do, just how quickly some do it versus the others. If you are a production worker then you need power, quickly, period. Whereas if you are working on technique it's about t-i-m-e. At the end of the day you would be hard pressed to tell any difference at all between the work done by one machine versus another.

Give Mike a PC and have a pair of Rupes surgically attached to each of my arms and I bet money (all of mine actually) that Mike's finish will be better than mine!

Good points, I will be working on production detailing. I have couple of systems dialed in that are working for me on hard and soft paint. Only thing to do is refine the system. When I get home of to the play ground I go. The parts yard.. I'm looking into AIO for production detailing, at the end of the day it's all about what the customer wants.

Ross, that got me to thinking, "the parts yard" part that is. Knowing the best thing for learning about what works on different paints is DIFFERENT practice panels, (that can be sometimes bought from parts yards). I wonder how they would look at ya' if you showed up one day with a buffer, pads, polishing products and portable generator and told them you wanted to "practice" on cars in the lot! :D  It'd be fun me thinks, but then again I'm weird sometimes. ;)

That's exactly what I'm going to do, already spoke to the owner :) of a local yard, what better way to test and practice.

I did polish my friends 2003 Acura over the weekend but we ran out of light to take pictures. So what I learned was I need more speed! And that if I had another da I could have put one in his hands. So now I'm waiting for a 15% off sale for the Flex 3401. And maybe if i sell enough junk in my garage I can get the Bumblebee too. :-)

So its been said that "A wise man changes his mind many times, a fool never does".

If that is true I wonder if i am a genius??

...One bumblebee headed north to Ohio.
