Review: Wolfgang DGPS 3.0

I think smell is definitely a factor. Sure it shouldn't be a huge factor, but it's a factor to me nonetheless.

Why?

Because, to me, if a manufacturer takes the time to create a scent or even just make a product smell less chemically, it shows that they not only care about what results their product will get, but also that it is an enjoyable experience for the user.

That's like taking an extremely fast car and not caring if it sounds like a lawn mower. Uhh no, that is not how manufacturer's do it. They will actually optimize the sound output that the exhaust makes... which has no difference on performance. Why do they do that? So that the USER has a better overall experience.

Smell matters. It may not matter to some, but it matters to me. Just like having a dressed tire shows that the owner cares about the look of the car, a nicely scented product shows that the manufacturer cares about the user experience.

All in my opinion of course.

Some nicely scented products include ONR, UWW+, Pinnacle Waterless Wash Plus Carnauba, Adam's Detail Spray, etc.

Perhaps to provide weighting on that towards the home user and pro user might put it in perspective. :dunno: The smell is just that, smell. Doesn't add to the performance at all. OTOH, I like the idea of products that have different aromas so as you move through your detailing program (once you become used to your products) you know what you're working with without having to even look at the bottle. ;)

Take a nitro burning top fuel funny car for instance. It looks great sitting still and even watching it on TV, but STAND there by the burnout box and your eyes water, your nose burns, and it is a TERRIBLE smell. However... when that puppy launches you know you're in for a treat! :hotrod2:

Look at the car finish like the "launch". Might have smelled funny getting there but once she's fired up and ready to go she'll turn heads no matter how bad she smelled. (Plus I just take a quick spritz of M34 Final Inspection and get her juices flowing at the end anyhow.)

Tell that to Car Pro and their product Iron

On the other hand, I have had reservations about the ever-increasing fight amongst manufacturers towards making all of their products smell absolutely lovely and yummy and tasty. Why? Because were I to have small children in the house I would have great concern by now that I would have found one of them poisoned in the garage from ingesting one of these absolutely marvelous smelling products!

Seriously, I mean we have pina colada, right, watermelon, you get my drift....
Makes one miss the good ol days strong chemical orders. ;)

I love the smell with some products but it's not a big deal if it doesn't have the most pleasant scent.
For me it's all about how well it works for me.
A nice smelling product is an extra bonus but not most important.

Now here's a pure Carnauba that smells just like fresh lemons.

My old buddy Frank D'Amato of Nu Look made this, poured it, and sent me on my way.

This wax has absolutely no cleaners, has to be 20 years old, is like he made it last week, I've used it once, and wouldn't trade it for two fresh pots of WG Fuzion. Fuzion I can get, this I can't. Not in this lifetime.

I wouldn't necessarily say a fragrance will make anything work better, but it sure adds to the experience. Frank's entire factory had an addictive aroma. He was like a Stevie Ray Vaughan of waxes. Sad he's gone, but not forgotten by me.

I understand my father still has tons of his products I left behind when I moved here to the southwest. Wish he'd send me some!

I know this is a year old but it's not a great review unless you want to know how they go on and rub off. Sealants don't give shine that comes from polishing. Sealants can only be judged long term by their durability. I wouldn't expect to see any difference between any sealants and sure enough both sides look the same. Surprise! Now some of the coatings these days make a difference in the appearance. I'd be all in on this review if 3 months later he showed the hood during nice rain.

"The 2 oz bottle of WGDGS is 100% FREE with your average AG order. I have 5 or 6 of those little bottles that have yet to be opened. Each bottle can seal an average car at least twice. So, you have to give Wolfgang / AG props for that, as nobody else is giving away free sealant with a normal size order."

AGO no longer offers WGDGPS as a FREE Sample

I picked up the WG Trio (16oz), back in Oct for $42. I think $14 for DGPS 3.0 was worth it.

Sealants dont give shine that comes from polishing? When did I state they did? This was done on a highly polished panel. If you know who I was, you would know I always advocate technique over product. I never intended to test either one for durability. Second, rain? Really guy? Water beading on paint doesnt always indicate that theres a a layer of protection there. After I polish my car, the paint beads like crazy with NO wax or sealant on the surface. Suprise! ;)

Imagine that. Not sure what your trying to prove here, that my review wasnt that great (which might be true), or that you dont know what your talking about when it comes to detailing. If your measure a products protection on how well it beads water, then you need to re-evaluate yourself as a detailer.

I really like WGDGPS personally, insane shine and glow. :xyxthumbs:

I still have and use M20, M21, ULW and NXT too. :)

M20 is a cleaner sealant that I use for cars that just need a little cleaning up and protection. Top that with M21 or ULW or even D156 for added boost, one will be surprised how much dirt that M20 pulls out of the paint. Will turn a white polishing pad gray or black usually with all the stuff it pulls out, makes a great one step IMO for cars that aren't really bad or a quick wash and wax.

I think they are all good on properly prepped finishes although they all have slightly different looks IMO.

I think ULW and WGDGPS give a wetter look like Nubas personally while ULW deepens the paint while WGDGPS is really bright with awesome reflections.

While M21 and NXT give a nice looking finish with great reflections.

Top any of them with a Nuba like M26 or Fuzion for even more bling. :dblthumb2:

I believe the OP included in his review how well each of the products performed in terms of application and removal.

Sealants don't give shine? Really? Yes all the prep work is where you get the shine and gloss from the panel, but changing sealant's will change the final outcome.

Sealants can also be judged by looks and not just durability although the durability factor is its strong suit.

With an average camera we the viewers will never be able to see a difference between panels. Here the OP is our "eyes" for the test subject.

Remember "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and this was addressed in his review.

I had 2 samples of this stuff, its VERY good, AWESOME infact!

Just curious now that it has been a year. I may have missed it scanning through the posts. Was there any noticeable difference in durability??

I apologize for not including a durability test on this product. This was one of my very first reviews, and since then have improved on delivery.

Both sides of my hood lasted roughly 3-4 months before they started degrading. They are both very similar products when it comes to the look they offer & durability.

Are they the end of all sealants? Of course not, there are better sealants on the market. Meguiar's UPW is one of them, Menzerna PowerLock, Four Star UPP. However for the price & looks M21 offers, its hard to beat especially if your in the business.

Menz Powerlock is virtually identical to WGDGPS 3.0.

IMO, I don't think megs 20 or 21 is as good as the WG. Never tried 4 star.
