Lost my bestfriend tonight. I will miss you Fred.

Here is a poem that really helped me when I had to put down my fourteen year old dog, Sugar, in 2008. She was the first dog I had had on my own for those 14 years:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It sadens me terribly to here of your "Fred". Losing a pet is like losing family.

My thoughts and Prayers for You and Fred.

We are empty nesters. Our dogs are our family. We have had to put one down at 16 years. We cried like babies. It is never easy.

A dog offers infinite love to his holders and asks for little in return. It will be the memories that you will cherish for a lifetime that return the favor.

For many years my dogs were my only family. I understand how crushing this is. Every time this happens it feels like you're going to die inside. The pain is suffocating. But I want you to know that Fred is in a place where there is no pain, no suffering, only good. And on that Great Day when we all come back together he will be there waiting for you. Believe it. Okay now I've got tears streaming down my face, I have to go.

Sorry to hear about Fred. We've lost a 19yo kitty lately as well. They are both in a better place.

Fred looked like a great dog. Remember the good times because more than likely that is all that Fred gave you.

Sorry to hear about Fred. Hang in there man. I know how incredibly painful it can be. I lost my best friend in May. He was my first dog and was the best dog you could ever ask for. All of us dog lovers have been there with you.

Well we buried him this morning with his bed and a towel because he hated being cold. I think that was the hardest thing I've had to do. I couldn't help but burst into tears again.

But thanks for all of y'all's support. Maybe one day I will get another one but I think it will take a little time before that happens

Here is a better picture

Fred looks like he was a good friend and it looks like you gave him a good home. It is a shame we get such a small time with our four legged companions. Sorry for your loss.

Chris sorry to hear the bad news. I've walked that path also loosing my dog at 12. It's not easy. Look at the positive side your Best Friend shared your life for 12 years and you have the memories. R.I.P. Fred.
