Expensive waxes

Wow, first Andrew and then Swan, great info guys, very well stated. Andrew did say a $4k shine testing machine of type was used to measure the difference, so atleast there's proof.

At the end of the day, it comes down to your expectations and needs, ofcoarse your wallet comes into play as well, so whatever you need/want/expectations are, there's a product for you.

I agree, however using a gloss meter to determine gloss is like using a Dyno to test a car's horsepower. X ammount of horsepower doesnt mean squat what the car will put down in the 1/4 mile. It will give you a general idea of what to expect.

I dont believe our "wallets" are an issue here. Most folks I know including myself spend more on polishing compounds, pads & accesories than on over hyped LSP's.

At the end of the day, either the paint has a high gloss finish, or it doesnt. Regardless of what last step product was used. If a couple GU's makes you feel better, go for it. Its not about the concept that "theres a product out for you depending on your expectations", its a matter of people willing to buy into the idea that X product is THAT much better to justify its price.

For the record, keep in mind that at the Pebble Beach Concours D Eleganze, Meguiars stacks up more wins than any other company. I'll end my argument here.

Just to continue the convo here, Meg's stacks up more wins?, does that have more to do with rep and the age of most of the owners though? Not knocking their products as I have Meg's UC right now and love it but I think we all agree, for the most part, that many products have come along to crush Meg's products in general.

lol I don't mean to be rude but who the hell would buy a $4,000 gloss testing device? I sure as hell wouldn't
to tack on to what I said about imo 69.99 being my price cap and after that differences are negligible at best
splurging and buying a 100-300 dollar wax is one's decision, however buying a wax that's over 300, only a fool. my opinion but lets get real here lol

I dont necessarily believe that, and I know you aren't bashing them. Megs has some tried and true products that just...well...perform. Sure you could get "better products" and pay more money, but its not really just the product. It really comes down to the user of the product. This is artwork.

Lmao, thats highly debatable. To say that many products "crush" Meg's products in general is quite the overstatement. I will say this however, Meg's LSP's are not their shinning stars, compared to waxes like DoDo & Zymol. Their Polishes, MF discs, Pads & other products on the other hand, are world class IMO.

Wow.. this got really cute. Please recall my original post that was solely to educate people about high end waxes. CM8 6MT, I dont care what you use or like. If cheap and cheerful is your way, all the power to ya. I am not here to argue. Don't knock products you haven't tried.

Don't call me a fool. Paul Dalton has one, paint shops, Autoobessed clearly, and soon me.

Bottom line for me.. if you can comfortably afford it with no regrets, and it makes you happy.

Not necesarily knocking on ANY product. The fact of the matter is I know the products I use. Wasnt it you who said that Ultimate Compound was a DAT product the other day? Cheap and cheerful huh, lol tell that to the guys at Pebble Beach see how that works out for you :D

Everyone ignore this, sorry to be involved in this and hijacking this thread

I dont use UC, but I wasn't bashing it...

You are saying that high end products are all hype, not practical. Unless you have tried a $$$$ wax, do not knock it.

I didn't say pebble beach guys are cheap and cheerful; frankly thats meanless to me, I said you are cheap and cheerful. Ten to one I would make a lot of friends there and sell a lot of products to the guys if they are as loaded as you make them out to be.

But can we please stop this? I really dont feel like arguing anymore.

Yeah I dont recall making that statement. High priced & high end are too different ball games. High priced wax products are mostly hype, IMO.

Im not trying to argue, but when you make a statement that UC is a DAT product, puts your credibility down to 0 on anything else you have to recommend. Thats like me calling Menzerna SMAT products and me going around giving people advice.

I may be wrong...But:

-I have re-read SON1C's above posting...
And it appears, to me, that he wasn't talking about one being foolish for having a $4,000 gloss meter...

-Buying a wax that costs over $300.00 seems to be the qualifier in his viewpoint.

With that being said:

first off I didn't call you a fool, you misunderstood / took that post wrong
secondly I enjoyed your informative post
I'm not bashing anyone here, just stating my opinion -> I think its foolish to spend over $300 on a wax and I would never really spend more than 69.99

and on a wax note the ssII on my car was beading ridiculous today :D

Have you tried a high priced wax like Race Glaze or something from the SV line?

Fortunately I know what you are talking about.

Me- "So I believe UC is actually DAT, so have a try with it and see how you like it. Really choose what works well for you. A lot of companies use "fear mongering" to promote their product as better, but honestly pick what works best for you. Wether that is Megs, Mothers, Optimum, Menz, Chemical Guys or etc."

You- "Negative, UC is not a DAT product, its SMAT. The only DAT products that Meg's produces are some of the 80 series polishes."

Me- "Thanks! :dblthumb2:

So basically you get to test both ends of the pole in your case"

I wasn't giving advice on what is DAT and SMAT, I was giving advice on choosing what you like and what feels best. So what? I made a mistake, I was wrong. I acknowledged I was wrong, but having tired UC a few times, I knew he would have good results.

Thanks a lot! I guess I was a little hot headed there; sorry bout that!

Men (assuming all men in this discussion), so illogical.

We should learn from the females, Louis Vuitton made out of canvas.

i personally have played with some SV and IMO i think the very few of us that can tell a difference, isnt worth the extra 100+, 1000+ dollars it cost.
the only ways i would ever consider buying SV or anything over 100 would have to be...
A. a Customer specifically asks for that specific wax or...
B. I get it for myself at an extremely extremely great price.

the human eye can only see and do so much, maybe a machine can detect a higher gloss but the human eye cant.
