Hey guys,
Not sure if this should go in here or not but oh well. Mods can move if need be. I restored my headlights and had to sand and buff inside the headlights. I'm wondering if I can use collonite 845 inside the headlight. I'm using it to seal the outside but will it discolor over time if I put it inside the headlight?

If restoring them and they are apart I would apply something more permanent than wax, like clear coat.

I don't think 845 or any sort of LSP will be of any value to the inside of the lens.

HID...I smell smoke. But seriously, I don't know.
Setec makes sense.

Actually I smell replacement.......if they taken apart and not properly resealed(which some lites are baked to seal the epoxy) then my assesment is that they are doomed for replacement because of moisture and fogging under climate changes.

I'm on the bandwagon. I see no cosmetic or practical need to use 845 inside the housing.

I think Vegas and dad07 are on the bandwagon...when I first read this, I thought to myself "how did he get the lights apart to polish the inside...how did he polish the inside, could he get in there?" but the whole thing is coming together...HID conversion, scorched lenses...you take it from there.

Damn...jumping to conclusions people. These are stock HID headlights... there is no scorching of the lens going on... I'm not a newb to opening headlights. Just because you open them doesn't mean they will leak and condensate. I've had them open before and resealed them before. I won't be doing anything inside the headlight anyway. Thought it would be good to seal the lens but doesn't matter since it will all be sealed and untouched again anyways.

I remember asking my local mechanic about take apart the housing because I noticed water spots inside the lens from condensation. He explained if I were to take it apart which he didn't know, he mentioned re-sealing would be an issue. Plus depending on the warranty at the time was not ready to mess with.

Sounds good. I guess erring on safe side is common. Don't want to see a fellow member get in a bad spot due to untimely advice.

I agree that taking apart headlights without knowledge is a bad idea. But you just need to use the right stuff to reseal them.

I'm leaving the insides alone now. But I did seal the outside of the lens with some collonite. Testing to see if it lasts longer than the mineral spirits/spar urethane mix. Can't wait till Opti-Lens comes out to try that stuff.

Yow, IMO there will be no comparison between Colly and Spar. A wax vs. a polyurethane paint is not even a fair fight. Hopefully the Opti-Lens will be out shortly as promised.

Consensus on hidplanet.com is opticoat. What reflector and shroud you plan on using?
