Hey guys!

I am writing this much to my chagrin.

Being a professional, sometimes I need products quickly and waiting is not really an option. For this reason I try and place my orders at the beginning of the week so by Friday they are at the boarder. Customs and Canada post don't work weekends, so timing it right means the difference between a 8 day wait, and a 14 day wait.

Now I have been ok with AG orders until this last one.

My order was placed on Sat, Jan 25. I knew that it takes them a business day to process so come Monday I would get the confirmation for shipping. Monday comes and nothing. I figured they were swamped and I wasn't worried. Tuesday and nothing, so before AG closes up, I give a quick ring and check on my package. I was told USPS didn't update the shipping info and the package was on its way! Happy was I... until Thursday. I got an email saying I needed to contact them for oversized shipping of $35.

So puzzled I ring them up and confirm the extra $35 without contemplating what I was doing. I agreed because I was more frustrated that the package hadn't even been ordered up yet. Considering when I called, I was told "its heading your way"! Finally Friday I get the confirmation. Now I have to wait and hope it a miracle happens and it gets here before my next booking. I am not so upset it took them a nearly a week to process the order. I am upset at the fact when I called, I was told its all taken care and not to worry when the package didn't exist yet!

Now onto the $35 extra cost. It was for 250 3M Paper Floor Mats. So after shipping I found out I have been "ripped off" on these. A local store offered me a package of 500 @ $45. Mine from AG are $35+$35(shipping)+$10(duty and tax) = 250 @ $80!!

Shipping and duty on orders cost me nearly $100 on every single one. With AO being so close and having such competitive prices, AG may have lost me... Time will tell.

Sorry for the rant, I had to get it off my chest.

I can understand your situation Andrew. I would love to keep ordering from AG but all the fees for crossing the border would drive me nuts.

Now for the mats, sometimes it is better to do some local shopping before making a long distance order.

As to AGO: Sometimes: 'The Best' just isn't good enough.

Andr3wilson: Sometimes: You have to do what is required.

You can't blame AG for something your country does that's just part of living in Canada. As for pricing always shop around get the best price and see if AG will match it.

Well I can't agree that you were "ripped off" on the price. It's not unreasonable to sell 250 mats for $35, than 450 mats for $45. They are different vendors and different quantities. Shipping & customs has nothing to do with the cost of the product.

On the other hand, I've experienced an order that didn't ship for an issue and was not notified. I had to contact them 2x to get it shipped. The delay was close to a week. They said they emailed me, but I didn't get an email.

Was the extra $35 cost for oversized shipping do to you being in Canada, or solely due to the size of the product?

I do understand your frustration....

Are the paper mats exactly the same including the brand and manufacturer?

Shopping around is important to ensure the best price.

Unfortunately Canada has some huge taxes/tariff's that they tack on to items coming from the US.

2 years ago I sold a pair of hood emblems for $35.00 on EBay and the buyer was in Canada. I received a sort of nasty-gram from him telling me if he had known it would cost him an additional $40.00 tacked on by the Canadian government or something he would NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THEM!!!!......like that's MY fault!! :argue: :dunno:

Yea I know checked around after the order was packed and shipped. It was a costly mistake, but I have learned.

True

I am not blaming AG for the Duty and Tax. I posted this mostly out of when I called them, they said everything was packed and on its way to me when in fact it didn't even exist. I doubt they would price match because they are a different brand (i dont know the brand tbh) and its not an online store.

I've seen your "unboxing thread" post$...

I'm sure AG would hate to loose your business over some measly paper mats

Its not just the mats, its more of the shipping issue and costs.

Yes the $35 extra charge was on the mats alone. Basically if I ordered them alone an extra $35 would be added.

Well true, I just don't like the fact I was told the package was already sent and it was all taken care of.

I do understand your frustration....

No they are not the same brand; generic brand I think. In hindsight it was a costly mistake for me. CND Custom have given me lots of hardship in the past, I know they can do whatever. I didn't realize that the $35 mats would cost me $35 to ship here.

More to the point, I don't like how I was told it shipped when it wasn't. I really need some stuff in the package for my next job.

I'm new here and you've replied to several of my posts and have been a great help. I hope my advice is taken in the spirit in which it is offered.

I am a small business owner with 50 employees. We value our customers and work hard to satisfy them. I'm sure that AG does, too. However, despite our best efforts, sometimes a mistake is made or sometimes I've got to work with one of my employees to reinforce our philosophy and mission. My point is, despite the best efforts of ownership, mistakes still happen and occasionally employees stray from the mission.

I would certainly be upset with the fact that they told you something has shipped when it actually hasn't. I've had this same thing happen with my own suppliers, and when I'm depending on them to deliver something by a critical date and it doesn't arrive, I'm certainly not happy.

But if you've had consistently good service from AG in the past, I think you should give them a chance to make this right and stick with them. Don't let one mistake ruin what has been a good long-term relationship.

There have been times in my life when I've burned bridges and I have to say I've usually regretted it, and that's all I'm offering here.

Best of luck whichever way you decide. Be true to yourself and make the decision that is best for you.

Steve

Ok, maybe I am missing something about how you are feeling ripped off.

A ten dollar price difference is up to you to use or not use. A local selling a product however is not going to have to deal with shipping, tax and customs. Those are not part of his cost of doing business with you, but they are a known cost of doing business when you are buying from someone that has to ship it over an international border for you to get what you bought..

Or am I missing something here?

Autogeek is an amazing store and has literally changed my life and really benefited me. I don't want people to not use them because of my experience.

I put ripped off in quotations to show that I was not ripped off as much as the final price was much higher than it should've been.

$35 for 250 mats is a good deal. My local store offered me 500 mats (double the amount) for $45.

Shipping the mats costs as much as the mats themselves. After my taxes and duty, it is $80 for 250.

But you need to know this isn't really upsetting as the shipping error.

I'm from Canada too, what I don't get with AG, is that if I order a gallon of something, they charge 30$ for shiping, then ask for another 35$ extra. If I get the same product from another retailer, they only charge me 24$ for the same gallon in shipping!

when it really hurts is when there are rebates, like a 20% off sale, they still declare the value of the package at full price, so I have to pay customs and taxes on the normal retail price, not the price paid! I called twice about this, they say it's for insurance purposes! it's not like they are selling me stuff under cost! why would they need to insure it more than what they are selling it for?

The insurance is there for if your order is ruined in shipping, they can completely replace it at no cost. I personally understand shipping and insurance, it is a complete minefield. I understand why they do it, but you have to also look at it from the customers eyes. If it costs more to ship then to actually buy the product, there is not much incentive to purchase.

I feel you, at nearly $100 in shipping and duty for an order. It just money out of pocket. I know what you are talking about with sales too, sure its just a couple bucks extra, but that can add up really quick too.

In Ottawa, you must be close to eShine? They are in Port Colborne.

I'm 7 hours from eshine, shipping usually take 2 days from eshine, and 3 days from AO, so either is a good option for me, for stuff that they don't carry I stick with AG

AO is fifteen mins from my house. eShine I find doesn't have the best prices though

I don't know you sir, but get the notion that you are a valuable assest to this forum, and I probably speak for others that we don't wish to lose you here.

And I'm sure you are also a highly valued customer as well.

I'm going to avoid discussions about countries, and their politics.

Wish you well, and hope you find ways of fine tuning such ordering processes to benefit yourself in the future.

Maybe this vid will cheer you up! LOL

When I posted a technique for correcting scratches, you answered my post with a helpful suggestion to improve the technique even more. I tried your suggestion and it worked well. I hope you stay in the forum. Half the fun detailing is collaborating with others and sharing ideas.
