Best Budget Claybar

Negative. Blue Magic has the best cleaning ability vs Megs white consumer clay & mothers clay. Now if you want to compare bar vs bar, the Blue professional clay bar from Meg's would be a direct comparison to Blue Magic. However, you can get a bar of Blue Magic for $7.99 vs $25 dollars for Meg's.

I've been having trouble finding the Clay Magic in my area--where do you source your Clay Magic Blue clay if I may ask??

You can spend money all day long on clay bars, or just buy one speedy surface prep towel for $50 and be good for the next few years at least. With optimum no rinse or ultima waterless wash plus concentrate for clay lube, and you have just about the cheapest clay per use.

If you HAVE to go over the counter, I like the megs clay bar kit, but haven't ever tried clay magic before (but have heard good things about it).

I actually did a comparison video between Megs Clay bar and Speedy Prep Towel:

First time using DA? If so I'd skip M105 totally, I know its get pushed here like its the end all be all, but honestly you need to jump through hoops to make it work well. Just stick with M205, unless you want massive headaches.

For clay, try mothers kit, budget friendly and works really really well without marring paint noticeably, plus the lube smells like cinnamon.

:iagree:with the 105 comment! If you are new, you will never E-V-E-R get the hang of it! Especially without doing a lot of test spots, different pads, different section passes, etc. With 105 you have very limited working time. Do a very quick spread and if you're lucky, you get 2 medium speed section passes. Work it 60 seconds and it'll clump up on ya.

You might try the Ultimate Compound, not quite as much cut but it'll work literally forever. If you work say 3 to 4 section passes it comes off like it's not even there. Over work it, do 6 to 8 passes and even if it dries out it'll still come off. (Always easy to just put a little more on to wet it and it'll slide right off.)

If you really want to step it up, RUN don't walk and get a bottle of 101. Holy crap do I love that stuff! Just got my new bottle last week and it's fantastic. I may never use 105 again. It doesn't work as long as UC, but it'll work till it it's hard to remove yet not clump up. I tested it from a really short to a very long time and it really didn't matter. (Again, just wet it with a little more on the pad and it comes off ALMOST as easy as UC.)

As much as im a fan of many Mother's products, their Clay Bar however isnt one of them. Their clay bar is VERY mild, almost no significant cleaning ability. The clay isnt very malleable either.

I recommend Clay Magic (blue bar) for light to moderate contamination. Its my go-to clay bar when I need a bit more contamination removal.

OR

Meguiar's Clay Kit. It comes with two 50g mild clay bars (white), a black plastic box to store them in so they dont dry, a quality Megs supreme shine towel, & a bottle of Quick Detailer for around $15.99

+1 on the Meguiar's kit. For starting a new kit it's easy to have what you need without having to buy this and that.

Also, the Griot's clay is nice, and not too expensive either. :xyxthumbs:

Later,

Cardaddy - Who doesn't have a Meguiar's avatar but has a ton of their products! :dblthumb2:

Would spray a mist of water prolong the working time as what the guy does in the video? :props:

I would have to give a nod to the Meguiar's otc kit as well. Gram for gram it's about the cheapest out there. Plus, you get lube and a towel too. I haven't tried any other clay. I have found what I like and will use it often.

Autozone used to carry it. I get most of my products from my detailer, but I did see Clay Magic bars available at Pep Boys.
