Burnt Paint

Sounds about right. To repair a moderate door ding and repaint the area and flare it out properly at a well known quality painter I got quoted $800. (One full door and blend into the adjacent panels)

Actually $500-$600 per panel is a pretty average price.

I agree... but was unsure if the quote was for the hood only, and not hood, roof and trunk.

Considering the trunk is damaged as well about the only thing that could be done, and done like it should be, would be come down to the belt line all around. THAT would cost considerably more than $500 for materials alone. ;)

The quote is for the car but come to find out it's just for paint. All the body work and prep work will be his uncle who owns a body shop. The actual quote was $3k. I found all this out this afternoon

Ahhhhhh.... "I see" says the blind man. ;)

Yup, $3K sounds more like it. If he does good work though that really isn't a bad price at all, not at all indeed.

I know one guy I used to do some towing work for (one of my dealerships was a MB that he did the collision work for) that has several ultra hi-line auto body shops. He will not even let Ford, GM, Toyota, etc. on the lot! Basically MB, Lexus and BMW are his 'beater' cars, the rest hi-line and exotics. He built his reputation on luxury and exotics, providing service over and above anything else in the Atlanta area. The insurance companies HATED him (still do actually). Was one of the pioneers of I-CAR (and training schools and still serves on the board.

His cheapest quote (10 years ago) for a spray started at $10K, and I've seen $30,000 BC/CC paint jobs come out of that shop. More money than I have that's for sure! But.... if I had a $100K+ ride it'd surely go there. ;)

WOW!! This looks like the best example of "get what you pay for" I've ever seen. Like you said though if I had a ride that was worth over $100k that's the place to go.

Im the MAN
