Meguiars M101 Side-by-Side Test and Video

Roshan as always great video review. I have a bottle in the basement just waiting for the right car and I can't wait to give it a go.

I think you will be very happy with it! Imagine M105 without all the suckiness that generally accompanies it. That's M101!

Roshan, I too am on my phone right now but it sounds like I've got the right stuff for "that job" when it rears its head but I've got a question for you. How about soft paint that's really, really swirled? Would the M101 be too aggressive? I've got the M101, XMT #4, Griot's MP # 2 & 3 and Meg's UC for polishes right now. I'm not afraid but sometime you wanna cut right to chase and not mess around. I'm thinking M101 is for heavily swirled hard paint using speed setting 5-5.5 and GG MP would be fine for soft paint. I corrected claw marks left by a dog all down the side on a Honda S2K last year with Meg's UC w/o a problem, really came through for me.

Thanks for the input here again!

Absolutely, if you use M101 on soft paint, it will mar the living sh!t out of it.

Actually on the viper in the video in the first post, the spoiler was aftermarket and I didn't know that. I also didn't know that it had really soft paint. Well, I learned it extremely quick when using M101. That spoiler looked a hundred times worse after I used M101 than before I used it LOL!

Luckily some Optimum Hyper Polish and I was back to swirl free :)

I haven't used the GG polishes but Megs Ultimate Polish is great when you need a fine polish. Ultimate Compound on a DA is a fairly strong compound imo.

And if you're still on your phone, here is the thread where I used a LC low profile cyan pad with M101 http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...9-meguiars-m101-review-does-live-up-hype.html :dblthumb2:

great video

Thank you :props:

M101 looks like a very nice product !

It's m105 minus 4!

Lol! It is a very nice compound though and if you get pretty hard paint swirled cars, I think it's invaluable!

In reguards to Meg's UC, your saying its too aggressive to use with my GG 6"? I got great results when using my GG 6" and their orange pad w/ Meg's UC on that silver S2K, those dog claw marks came out right away! I have a 2004 blue Chevy truck that's all swirled out (fiance's brother) and its my target for trying out M101 for the first time, its used and abused.

I wasn't saying it's too aggressive. Just merely pointing out that it is an aggressive compound :props:

Speaking of dog claw marks my driver door got scratched pretty bad by one. Im hoping a little Scratch X will take care of it, if not UC will have to be used.

Hi Roshan, just checked out your video and also read the thread with your m101 review. Great job on both—thanks for putting in all that work. I had a couple of questions and would appreciate any feedback you have.

1. I noticed you also have Hyper Compound. How does Hyper Compound compare to M101 in your experience? Pros/cons, strengths/weaknesses, which compound do you like better?

2. How does using M101 on a cyan HT pad compare to using M101 with an Opt cutting MF pad? What are some of the circumstances/conditions you would choose one pad over the other?

Thanks for your help!

My buddy just got into an accident and he's got a 2013 Chrysler 200 in a beautiful shade of rootbeer, its got 7k on the clock and hood is swirled....BAD, looks like a map of our solar system! I'm using this car to try out M101 for sure. My question is this, since I'd just be doing a small section, does it really need to be a certain temp to do a test section? I plan on cleaning, claying, M101 and following it up with GG machine polish #3 and applying choice of LSP, probably my Dodo juice supernatrual wax stick, what the hell.

A little off subject Roshan, but have you compared Menzerna SF400 to M101?

I try to not only do the "test-spot", but all of the vehicle's panels as well...

Where I can place the palm of my hand upon the "test-spot-area"/panels
without experiencing an: "Oooch Ouch Oooch" reaction.

And always: Out of the Sun

YMMV, though.

:)

Yeah out of the sun for sure but its only in the mid 40's, so I'd think it would be ok doing a small test spotm. Actually I'm going to try out XMT #4 as well, gotta love rentals, LOL!

Thanks for watching! Let me see if I can answer your questions:

1) Both have their place, M101 definitely cuts more and way faster than OHC.

OHC seems to be able to worked in longer, and seems to better in the heat. Removal is about the same. OHC seems to need less product than M101 as well.

OHC is my go to compound for light to medium hardness paint with swirls that will need a compound. M101 is reserved as the big guns.

They are about the same price I believe. M101 is my favorite compound, but OHC is my go to. As I said first, they both have their place in my arsenal.

2) They seemed to cut about the same imo. I know that the MF cutting pad has a much larger surface area and much more polish working for you, but still, they cut the same on the hard paints that I have used on them.

If I can, I will go to MF disks. If the panel is very hot, I will definitely go to foam. MF disks seem to hate heat imo, and I've already torn apart one Optimum MF disk from letting it get too hot.

Sorry man, never used Menz SF400 :(

I do all my work outside in 60-80 degree weather, with no canopy. I wish I could work indoors or under a canopy, but that's just not an option on the table right now.

I think you will be fine :props:

In case you need them, these are my tips about working in the sun and hot weather. Most of this stuff was passed on to me by AGO members, and after testing the tips I received, this is what I generally do:

1) Work your polish in a much smaller area.

2) don't work your polish as long as you would normally

3) change your pads FREQUENTLY! (I'd say about 10 of each color you're going to use)

4) you will use much more polish in the sun than out of it, know that before you start and plan accordingly.

Thanks a lot! Exactly the info I was looking for. Keep up the good work.
