With just under 1000 miles, the condition of this car was mind blowing, its BRAND NEW! The owner rejected the car twice when he saw the wash scratches and holograms all over the entire car. After a couple attempts from the dealership, it was clear they could only make it worse. In the pictures below, you will see the work of an inexperienced detailer who went buff happy and left high speed buffer trails also known as "holograms" on every inch of this car. I was actually surprised there were no burns in the paint or plastic trim. I spent a total of 30 hours on this car over a period of 3 days, perfecting every inch of the cars paint. Since this car is a daily driver, we also applied CQuartz FINEST, to ensure the car is protected against the elements and make regular washes easier for a longer period of time.

Here, you can begin to see the work of an inexperienced detailer, leaving high speed buffer trails or "holograms" on every square inch of the car.

RIDS(Random Isolated Deeper Scratches) were also found in several locations on the cars finish.

Wheels

I start every detail with the wheels first. This particular client likes to drives his cars hard, so a thick layer of brake dust is pretty common!

P21S Wheel Gel makes quick work of breaking up the brake dust particles and safely cleans the wheels without harming the finish. A boars hair and EZ-Detail brush is used to clean the Brembo Calipers as well as the inner wheel barrels.

Engine

The engine bay was relatively clean, just had a few hard water spots and a light layer of dust.

Meguiars APC was used to clean using a Swissvax Boars Hair Detail Brush to get into the tighter spots.

303 AeroSpace was used to protect and to make the plastic trim look like brand new.

Interior

The interior was in good shape, just need to be wiped down, vacuumed and protected.
2012-Lexus-IS-F-021.jpg

It was around 10pm on the last day when I finished the interior, so it was hard to get any real after shots of the interior that turned out good, since I left my tripod at home that day.

I did manage to get a couple pretty cool shots though!

Paint Prep & Decontamination

After the initial wash, Iron-X was then used to remove any remaining iron particles or fallout that may be attached or embedded into the paint surface.
2012-Lexus-IS-F-032.jpg

Another final wash, the paint was now stripped of any remaining wax or sealants. This will be important to ensure the CQuartz Finest Coating bonds to the car completely.
2012-Lexus-IS-F-033.jpg

A clay bar was used with BlackFire Clay Lubricant to make sure the paint surface was smooth and free of any remaining contaminants.

This particular car had clear film on each of the door edges and rocker panels. Each piece is carefully taped, so they do not become damaged from machine polishing later in the detail.

Paint Correction

A quick walk around the car with halogen lighting quickly revealed the many defects in this Obsidian Black Lexus IS-F. Besides the obvious swirling and wash scratches, there were some deeper scratches hidden throughout the car as well.

I decided to use the passenger door as a test to make sure my process would eliminate the defects completely. This is before any correction.
2012-Lexus-IS-F-065.jpg

After the first two stages of polishing, the defects were removed completely. The paint on this IS-F was extremely soft, which made it easier for me to remove defects, but made it harder to finish down without inducing new ones.

50/50 shot of test panel after polishing. You can see all defects were removed and a the clarity has been improved dramatically.

Great work.

I would have never accepted that car in that shape. I would have made the dealer pay for a professional detail like yours at a minimum.

Looks amazing - unbelievable how much damage the dealership inflicted on this car! The owner should really use these images to inform the dealership what they are doing to their vehicles!

Thanks! The customer took the bill to the dealership. They were willing to fix the car, they just didnt know how. They couldnt even see the swirls/holograms with him pointing to them in direct sunlight, which is why he had me do it. He showed them my write-up and said they were impressed, hopefully they at least gave him a partial payment for my services.

Awesome work! What buffers/polishers did you use with what compounds/polishes?

What products, pads, and machines did you use to correct the issue? Amazing results by the way, truly outstanding.

all I want to know is what kind of Ferrari is that in the garage?

This should be tagged and stickied to what Mike refers to as DISO (dealer installed swirl option).

Haha, thanks for the new term!

Unbeliveable that a dealership would have an employee on their staff who would call themselves knowing what they're doing only to ruin people's cars as well as their own reputation. Wow, just wow.

man amazing work!!!
my car has these dealer installed swirls as well
if i can get half the results you did i would be delighted.
thanks for sharing

Did you do this correction in the clients garage? That's some high quality refinment work you did for him. Nice daily beater.

I'm surprised you were able to get M205 on an orange pad to finish down without any haze... what speeds were you working at with the G110?

I experienced haze with M205 and a black finishing pad on my IS250 using my PC7424XP at a speed of 5.
