I am currently building a new website for my business on WordPress, I was curious if anybody else is using it and what plugins you use?
 
I am currently building a page from scratch built around wordpress. So far no plugins yet. I do plan on some SEO plugins to simplify things.
 
We use wordpress for the backend on a lot of different sites. Not the hosted .com, we host our own.

The plug ins you need are really just determined by what you want to do, but some good ones are the picasa one for adding pics, google analytics, and some of the twitter/facebook plug ins. Again, it sort of depends on what you want to do.
 
I am pretty new to it, but luckily there is YouTube. I did have vista print, it was easy to use, but has serious limitations. I Had to change my site from .com to .net because of vista print. How would SEO make it easier?

Adding the SEO plug in helps the system rewrite your urls, which is good especially if you're writing any blog entries. So, instead of Website.com, you get Website.com or whatever.

That helps you assign your keywords, and just makes the pages a bit more robot (search engine) friendly.
 
I tried to build a site with word press but the only thing that sucks is the file size for photos and you can't increases the size. 2MB for file size for photos is to small for me most my photos are 4mb.

There should be no reason for you to upload a 4mb photo, unless you want visitors to download them and make posters. :xyxthumbs: They'll take forever to view anyway. Even at 1280px wide, it should only be a couple of hundred kb.

Windows has a built in photo editor you should use, just to resize them, or whatever came with your camera. Picasa will also let you do it online.

At 4mb, you're probably trying to upload photos in the same size you took them in, which is probably 3500px or more, which is always going to be resized so people can actually view them.

A lot of programs will let you batch process too so you can resize all of them at one time.

If you need help, feel free to pm me. I've run my own web development business for about 15 years, so I know a few tricks here and there...

Great thank you cause when I go to upload it says file size can only be 2mb and the web builder I'm using Lets me upload any size is why I like it.

I just went to your home page for the first time, and the 300z image took way longer to download than it probably should. The original is only like 300kb, but it's 1100px wide, and you're only using it at 925px, so it's wasted download time.

I did a quick process on it, and it came out to 109kb. The forum is resizing it smaller to 640px.

Your gallery images can take a long time to view the enlargements (i'm on a slower broadband, 2mb). So, chances are, some people won't wait to view them (they say just a few seconds per page.)

You might think about just reworking the enlargements. I size mine to 800px wide, which is pretty decent on most monitors.

Ditto apology on the hijack, but hopefully it's relevant info no matter what web program people are using. The image size thing is probably one of the biggest mistakes people make.
 
i wish i knew more about web design....i am only using wordpress for posting blogs...

I do full builds with it all the time. You just need to use the PAGES part of it, and you can add anything you want.

Here's an example, my wife's blog, which we use as a platform for her iOS app as well. It's all wordpress, a customized Twenty Eleven template (built in.) See how it has blog elements and pages too? Really easy actually.

I have a word press one 95% built got burnt out trying to finish it. Been to busy detailing to try to finish it so I'll just keep my old one.
 
SEO by Yoast is very good and tutorial videos on YouTube to go along with it.

Pick up a book on HTML and CSS from the library. In a few hours you'll feel much more comfortable working on the site.

Also, W3Schools Online Web Tutorials is priceless for all type of web development help and education for free.

Don't make me think is a great book to learn how to structure the content on your website.
