Detailing Time Chart

Nicholas that's a really great tool to throw out there dude! I think everyone ends up getting into a groove that they just work with. Then look back at it later and wonder where in the he!! their day went?!?!

This would be a great thing for a guy to keep up with from car to car and just track their times. First it'll show just what's going on period (that's a good thing). Second it'll show where perhaps some time can be saved. And FINALLY (once the system has been used on a variety of vehicles, all shapes and sizes) it'll allow to plan for optimum use of time, maximizing potential profits.

In any event, here's :dblthumb2: to you for helping weekend warriors and daily grinders alike! :D

Thanks for the feedback CarDaddy! That's exactly how I have used it to help me streamline my service offerings and pricing.

Here is the link again for you Hoytman. It should just show up as a direct download for the Excel spreadsheet.

I made a few changes to make it into an estimate Sheet for detailers. It is designed around Excel 2010. The Estimate sheet uses a pivot table with slicers (A cool tool).

To select multiple slices use the control key to select the services. If you change data on the data sheet you need to go the estimate sheet >data> refresh all.

I will try to convert to Excel 2007. I just might only be able to use pivot tables. Would Access be an alternative?

What I find conflicting about this spreadsheet is that if you try to be more efficient (by getting better tools/chemicals/etc), then you'll spend less time achieving the same result. That means you have less billable hours and therefore should be charging less money for the same result.

This is certainly where if you have pre-packaged services at (roughly) fixes prices, then being more efficient helps the bottom line.

This makes sense. And, like you mentioned, I don't lower my prices when I become more effecient. Taking less time to perform each aspect of a job simply allows me to make more $ per hour. That's kinda why I put severals tiers of hourly rates.

As you adjust the times to more accurately reflect your workflow you can see how profitable you were on each job. If you charged less than what the chart shows then you aren't making enough and you can go back and look into where the bottleneck is in the process.

The idea of the information on the spreadsheets are to identify areas were you can effectively cost out jobs. The amount of time that you do a particular service like wash and dry a car may take one person 30 minutes and another person 20 minutes is all relative.

So the idea of putting a time on a service can do a few things.

Effectively provide estimates to customers.
Understand that one day you do a service in10minutes and the next time it take 30 minutes. Effectively schedule services. It also can help trend services in an effort to keep profitable one and relinquish non profitable services.

All I wanted to do is expand on someone's work to help someone who is not familiar with Excel.

I think I see the problem... try the exact same download link but at the beginning make it say http instead of https. I will fix the link when I get home from work.

Tried that suggestion and still nothing. Gave me an "Error 404".

It's no big deal. I just wanted to let you know I couldn't see it and that others may be experiencing the same problem.

I'm not sure what the deal is... I'm home now and testing the links and they appear to be downloading normally. It could be some sort of setting in your web browser or anti-virus software that doesn't like the https download links... :dunno:

If you can't get it to work just PM me your email addy and I'll shoot it right over as an attachment.
