Product Review: Meguiar's Bug Splatter Sponges

Yeah I noticed how thin they were. Im assuming they are just like the ones that came with that toothpaste looking wax that Megs came up with LoL. I havent seen them locally, ill probably order some eventually. Trainning is going well, alot of running & general work outs. When I come back ill defenitely check out Pinnacle Waterless, as I use alot of Megs UW&WA often, and its not cost effective.

I agree with you on Meg's UW&WA price point. Its a great product just not economical to use all the time. Thats why I picked up the Pinnacle wash.

I have used the dryer sheet when the bugs get bad, but wonder what it is doing to the sealant/wax. I may try these.

Never heard of using a dryer sheet before.

I noticed that when I saturated the front bumper for a pre soak and then used these to get the bugs off it pretty much killed a month old single layer of Fuzion. But in Fuzion's defense the bumper cover was soaking in a pretty strong mixture of RFEW and then wiped with the bug sponges.

Nice write up.
I highly recomend these pad on a road trip.
Easy to use.
If your doing it at home, I recomend washing your car first and then use these for the bugs that remain.

Great review.

Thanks for taking the time to write it and post your results.

I purchased these about a month ago from a local store and have to say I have been pretty impressed myself.

I only wish they sold these in a larger quantity. :xyxthumbs:

Plan on taking a couple packs with me in my suitcase now for road trips .. along with a spray bottle of UWW+

Hey glad you made it.

Thats another idea to try out. Wash then use the sponges.

Great review.

No problem. I wanted to do the write up as I havent seen one done yet.

These sponges compliment an over the road detail kit perfectly.

Mine is extremely hard unless I soak it in some fairly hot water for a while. Is that normal?

Yes! that is normal

I have this bug sponge as well.

Perfect for heavy bug splatter and for clients car.

I let it soak in a my rinse bucket on the way to jobs.. ( my rinse water is always warm or hot during winter)

Pretty soft by the time I arrive.. or if using at home I soak it under running hot water for 3 - 4 minutes

I prefer the Megs bug sponges for on the go kit! Especially for FL travel

I recommend everyone pick some of these up :xyxthumbs:

I'm gonna have to get these! Bugs in Oklahoma in the summer are brutal:)

On my way home to SC from Fort Lauderdale, pulled into a rest stop in Daytonna and used a sponge along with some Lucas Slick Spray to clear the dead critters from the hamster-mobile. Product works well for roadside touch-ups

Glad it worked for you. This is a great product for fast and easy bug clean up. I use them all the time for waterless/rinsless washing when needed. I dont get many bugs here in Vegas.

Sorry to bump an old thread but...do you just soak these in water then wipe? I ask as I am getting ready for a road trip and my local Orilies has them on clearance for $2.25 a box.

Hi Mike...

No. These bug sponges come pre-loaded with bug solution. In the pictures I was showing what they look like when opened and some of the solution ran to the bottom of the sponge.

Grab a box of them to take along for the road trip. :xyxthumbs:

Hi Bob,

Thank you sir! I have kicked around the idea for a while and wanted to use it and it all came together when I created my FB page.

This looks like a very effective product, however after many years of fighting those darn bugs with every chemical, sponge, and technic I could find, I yelled uncle. Now i'm that guy who gets out of his car with bottle of detail spray (Garry Dean's Infinite Use Detail Juice) and wipes the front end and mirrors down. I feel that even with an effective removal method those critters left on there for an extended period will defiantly etch into the paint. So every time you stop just take care of 'em while they're easy.

Well said. The sooner you can remove them the better.
