Ramifications of removing trim?

Hi all I have a question about my cars trim. On the doors of my 99 mustang are the door guards or what ever they are called, I call them door dildos.

Its a silver car, im wondering what I should expect under the trim, will the paint be faded around where they came off or will it have held up because its silver? What should I use to remove the adhesive, ive heard windex and goo-gone work but I dont want ANY marks left behind on the sides of my doors.

If they were put on years ago, there probably will be a color difference. You may have to put on new trim to hide the imperfections.

I used enamel reducer on a rag and my thumb to remove the molding adhesive from my truck. If a "safe" solvent dose not remove the adhesive use the 3M Stripe Off Wheel
