I was looking at maybe trying to get some of the Ford Orange peel out of my car but I dont really want to wetsand. I was thinking of using the velvet pads on my car. Anybody have experience with the velvet pads on OEM paint? Thanks guys!

Dear w3bb3r04

I'd love to get rid of the orange peel on our 2012 Odyssey, but if we did, there'd be no paint left.

Please be sure to keep us posted about your experience.

Was looking at the same thing.keep us updated

just be aware that those car pro pads will remove your clear fast and you will not even realize it. Before you use those pads you need to use a paint thickness guage to measure how much clear you have before you starting removing it. You need to take muiltple readings of the section where you are planning to use the car pro pad on. Then once you begin to remove paint or orange peel you should stop after every 3 section passes and take new thickness readings. OEM clear is very thin.

Is there a gauge that measures the clear it self and not the base coat ?
Or possibly the layers of clear

The expensive ones measure primer, base coat and clear.

If anyone has carpro questions, they should ask cee dog. I'd be surprised if he couldn't answer any carpro related question.

A malaysian detailer fishbonezken did a comparison wetsanding vs velvet/denim pad, he found using the pads though faster removed more clear than wetsanding.

Our Denim or velvet pads will remove about 2~3 microns each pass you do, average clear coat thickness is between 50~60 microns ,OEM painted, aftermarket will be even thicker.
you do need to check the paint thickness but its not that risky as you describe it,
Todd Helme did a very good review test with the denim pads , that will give you great idea how to use them as well :

As said above, the expensive ones do that.

A trick used if you have a normal PTG is to measure all over the car and then measure under the door handles. Take the average car's measurement and subtract the number you got from under the door handle and you have a general idea of how much clear can safely be polished away.

Awesome! Do you own a gauge ?
