Hi friends ;)

i"d like to know from you guys what you would use for a quick one-step correction on a BMW, to be delivered tomorrow. the car's at my place now.

I've corrected the headlights on a BMW, was in a very bad state.

Now the owner wants a quick shine.

Actually, The ride is swirled, loads of orange peel and got a lot of scratches.

how do I proceed with what I have because will not be in a position to buy any detailing products so soon because we are in Mauritius.

What I have are:

  • Menzerna 203s and PO85rd
  • Meguiars M80
  • Optimum hyper compound & hyper polish
  • Collinite 476s
  • Poorboys Black Hole
  • Menzerna and DP sealants

I've got the Flex DA and the Makita rotary, and the LC pads.

What would you recommend to complete this work? Feed back please

many thanks n regards

Zaid

one step, as in an aio? or one light polish followed by lsp, which is two steps....sorta....

if aio route, bf tpns, poorboys with sealant, xmt 360.....

if a light polish, then lsp, i'd go wg finishing glaze, 205 and then to lsp...

imo orange pad and hyper spray. it will work perfectly with that paint and finish incredibly well whilst getting the defects out easily, even with the flex. i think hyper is the perfect polish. long working time, cuts great, finishes great...and makes little mess and no dust.

the peel is a whole other problem - you'd need to sand to get that out. don't worry about it.

My advise would be Meg's 205 with an orange pad.

Megs 205, Orange pad, 5200 OPMs.

thanks a lot :dblthumb2: for your prompt feedback friends, but unfortunately don't have the the M205.

Do you mean the hyper Polish or the Hyper Compound?

i've used the Hyper compound with the LC wool pad on Flex on a Honda. it worked well but i finished it with PO85rd.

Now i want to do it in a single step because the owner wants a shine, (not a flawless finish)

what are your thoughts?

None of the products listed are an all in one. So if you just use a polish you will have no protection, Poorboys Black hole is a glaze and will wash off. That leaves Menzerna and DP sealants and Collonite 476s. Which sealants from Menzerna and DP?

At this point I am going to say Collonite 476s, it will def. give a nice shine and offer some great protection too.

That's what I was thinking... I don't see a one-step cleaner/wax in his arsenal.

Doing a one-step means using a one-step cleaner/wax or AIO. That way you clean, polish and protect in one step.

All the products listed are dedicated compounds or polishes that would need to be "topped" with something that offers protection and "lasting characteristics", that is ingredients that won't wash off in the rain or when the car is washed.

Most compounds, polishes and glazes are water soluble.

Poorboys Black hole is a glaze and will wash off.

This is how it's supposed to be but I used some for a TV commercial on a black 1970 Challenger and after testing the product on the paint I washed the car and the spot with Black Hole Glaze held up to washing and beaded water pretty well.

To the OP...

With what you have I would apply the Poorboy's Black Hole Glaze with a soft foam polishing or finishing pad using the Flex 3401. IF you have a PC type tool I would actually opt for that for a one step.

Otherwise, use one of the fine cut polishes you have and then apply a dedicated wax.

Hi Ziad,

Of the products you already have both the Menzerna PO203S and Optimum Hyper Polish are the best choices for a 1-Step approach but none are really a true 1-Step.

Sometimes you need to improvise....

Menzerna PO203S is what I'd a medium cut / medium gloss product. It does a great job at removing swirls and up to 2000 sanding grit defects.

My concern is the severity of the finish defects. Actually, The ride is swirled, loads of orange peel and got a lot of scratches.

This will require some testing to determine if Menzerna PO203S is the right choice. I would work the product using an Orange foam pad on speed 5. You could bump it up using a White foam pad to see if this brings up the shine a bit. Keep your arm speed slow and work small sections evaluating your progress as you go.

Depending on your goal, PoorBoy's World Black Hole contains fine fillers and could be used after polishing to hide very minor defects. Once applied and buffed, top with Menzerna Power Lock sealant to protect.

The OP is only looking to do a single step with the products he listed and customer only wants a "shine". Car is being delivered tomorrow, never used PB Black Hole but Mike stated it will give a nice shine with some protection.

I have used 476s with my wash n wax pkge and have had good results with a nice shine and lasting protection. I figure the customer picking up the car would be happy with that.

sorry, i should have specified! i meant polish. you just have to work it long enough (which is definitely possible with hyper) to allow the abrasives to break down once they have made the initial correction with that orange pad. at that point it should finish nicely without micro marring. you'll have to test to find out, obv.

guys he said single step correction; i didn't think he meant AIO. correct, then apply protection. i think you'd be hard pressed to find an AIO that would really make a huge LASTING difference on that finish. anyway it's a moot point - you have what you need to make that car a lot better than it is.

FWIW....didn't the OP specify, "One Step Correction?" That's how I interpreted, as opposed to an AIO or a one-step PROCESS.

Accordingly, I'd take a stab at M205/orange on a test spot. BMW's drive me nuts...even the same color....one will be ridiculously soft and another will be much easier to manage. In any case, spending a few moments experimenting up front will give you a great idea of what will best accomplish your goal. Good luck.... And. Great job on the headlights. That alone will undoubtedly bring a smile.

Sonax perfect finish with a light or medium polishing pad depending if the paint is soft or hard.

Whoops I missed that. I saw others mentioning 205 over and over. I guess 203S and a change of type of pad. Orange peel will need wet sanding for sure. Is he willing to do that?

haha i know i had to go back to the post a few times to see why people kept saying that, then i checked again when i saw your post. i was like "what am i missing here?" hehe

Thanks so much for the explanation Mike and for the link too, actually I used the Poorboys BH and topped with PowerLock (didn't try 476s due to the rain) thanks again :dblthumb2:

i'll update on AGO soon, here's a link to the detail on facebook:

Thanks a lot Bobby :dblthumb2:

I agree with Bobby.

But 2500 may not have the cut needed for that car.

:iagree: the paint is as hard as rock compared to the Toyotas and Hondas i worked on

Actually, this was what I intended to do in 4 hours (it took me 6 hours in all, sealed with PowerLock due to heavy rain.

Thanks a lot for your encouraging words, unfortunately i don't have the megs 205

Thanks a lot bro, don't have sonax either managed with what Mike advised due to short time. :dblthumb2:

NO.... only shine on a grey color :(

will post a thread soon.

thanks again to all of you for your help.:xyxthumbs:
