I think I'm done buying LC pads. I own about 50 pads (all LC). Out of them, probably 4 are starting to delaminate (Velcro peeling off foam). I usually try and fix it with Krazy Glue, which does seem to hold for a while. I wash my pads with cleaning products meant for pads - and I'm only a weekend warrior. Some pads have delaminated after one use. I don't overheat or overload pads, and I've never had any other type of pad failure other than de-lamination. For some reason, 3" doesn't seem like a popular size, but its mandatory for one of my cars. While I like the performance of the pads (especially the Cool Wave pads) - I can't understand why they can't come up with a glue that holds. It just seems unacceptable.

So I decided when I have to replace them, I'm going to try other brands. They *could* be just as bad, but they haven't pissed me off yet.

The only other 3" pads I can think of are these Buff n Shines:

I have no experience with BnS pads. My question is, these look like the BP countersinks into the pad. My BP is:

3 Inch Dual Action Flexible Backing Plate
Code: LC-43-073DA

The actual size of the plate is 2 & 7/8".

1. Anyone know if this will fit the "countersink" in the BnS pads?

2. Anyone know of any other 3" (not 3.5") foam pads (not microfiber)?

TIA!

Griot's has the orange and red 3" pads and they are available here at AG.

The orange is the same kind of foam as the tangerine HT (at least to me), but Griot's had their pads way way before the LC HT pads came out...so I dunno what that means.

The Megs 4" pads fit that LC plate perfectly.

Here's a photo I sent to Mike Phillips of a project I worked on last fall. In total, I had approximately 22 hours just on the roof of this project. In the large areas I used M105 on a large wool pad and 6.5 inch Meg's polishing pad using M105 also.

Along the ridges you see in the photo below I used 3" wool and a 3" inch yellow polishing pad using M105 on both pads. Those pads were the Buff-n-Shine pads you mentioned above. I've only used them once, but I can tell you that I put one yellow Buff-n-Shine through a torture test removing the majority of the oxidation along those ridges. I bet I had to clean that pad 20 times (by choice for the torture test, washed by hand) while using it on that roof. When the oxidation was gone, I simply cleaned the pad again and then applied M205 to polish it to a brilliant shine. I ended up using that same single Buff-n-Shine pad in other areas on the Trailblazer.

By the end of the job the pad was showing signs of wear, but no signs of failure. In total, and I'm guessing, I probably used that pad for a total compounding/polishing time of 8-10 hours over the entire Trailblazer. I had more of the same pads, but I used this opportunity to learn about the quality of the pads. They are certainly worth buying in my opinion. Keep in mind though, that this is my only use of these brand of pads, but it was for several hard hours on both a dual action polisher and a rotary.

I'm not sure if the backing plate you showed will fit them or not, but when I bought my pads I bought the matching Buff-n-Shine backing plate.

Cool, looking forward to the before and after pictures...

Here's your test spot on the roof... looking good!

If you look at the rib just above and touching the light bulb in the above photo, you can see the oxidation at the bottom of the rib that still needs to be removed. This is where the Buff-n-Shine 3 inch pads came into play and performed flawlessly.

Starting at the top of the photo and counting the ribs down, you can see how progressively worse the oxidation is along the bottom of each rib with the bottom portion of the photo having nothing at all done to it.

I'm not saying these pads are better than any other brand of 3 inch pad, however, I have no trouble buying these same pads again and I certainly won't have any trouble recommending these pads to folks.

I didn't directly answer your immediate question about the backing plate fitting those pads, but I hope that I've helped give you some confidence should you choose to try those Buff-n-Shine pads.

Here's a couple of pads that'll fit the LC 2 7/8" Backing Plate:

-Meguiar's 3" Easy Buff Knitted Wool...#W-4003

-3M Perfect-It 3" Ultrafine Foam Polishing Pad...#05760
-3M Perfect-It 3" Foam Buffing Pad...................#05759
