I recently purchased a black 2013 Toyota Avalon Touring. I've never had a new car or a black car. I plan to wash, clay, wash, meguiars ultimate wax then meguiars 26. Does anyone have any suggestions or critiques?

I am in I also bought a 2013 touring in sizzling Chrystal mica...

Are you using UW of the paste or liquid form?
The liquid form tends to streak a little if you let it dry too long.
Meg recommends only 2-3 minutes before wiping off. If it does streak... no biggie. Just apply with UW again and wipe it right off.

The crimson almost made me change my mind about the black. I like that color too

The joys of maintaining a black car...
Welcome to the club and congrats on your new car!

As a owner of a black car also I have one suggestion. SELL IT!!!!

J/K

If the paint is in good condition I would do the following:

For black car I recommend washing with Megs d114 Rinseless, and maintain with a sealant spray like Wolfgang Spritz or Blackfire Polyspray, and every two month apply Blackfire Crystal seal or Wolfgang Deep Gloss Liquid seal.

Here’s the links to the products I have mentioned:

BLACKFIRE Deep Gloss Spray Sealant, spray wax, paint sealant spray
BLACKFIRE Crystal Seal Paint Sealant 8 oz.

Wolfgang Deep Gloss Liquid Seal, paint sealant
Wolfgang Deep Gloss Spritz Sealant

Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash, rinseless car wash, no rinse

If youre on a budget just wash it good, clay, and toss on some collinite 845. If you have money to spend then the list goes on and on..

It's brand new so hopefully I won't need correction work. I was going to was it with megs gold wash and shampoo then touch test for paint impurities. If needed I would clay with Megs smooth clay kit. Wash it again the ultimate wax and finally top off with Meg's 26.

I won't have time to really inspect it and start detailing until the 18th. What is opti-coat?

Sent you a PM

If you do go opti-coat you have to make sure the paint is perfect before you put it on and make sure it is surgically clean.

Ask them cos some might know a lot more than i do about this.

Congrats on the new car for sure, can you take it back and get another color (just kidding....kinda of, LOL!) DuraGloss makes great products that are both inexpensive and easy to use and produce stunning results!

Um its a 2013 im sure that its not going to need a 3 step.

Even brand new cars fresh off the lot need correction work after the detail jockeys on hand get through with it. Hence the reason I asked the OP what his goals are.

It should need a minimum of a polish such as Meguiar's Ultimate Polish on a Meguiar's yellow W8207 or equivalent polishing pad to freshen it up.

These are just a few examples OP.

Yeah was thinking the same thing. Don't know if they already detailed it but if they haven't, I would say tell them not too.

Brand new car doesn't need correction, hmmm, well if the car sits on a lot for a couple weeks its going to need a clay barring more than likely, swirls are possible if the dealership hires those mobile guys with powerwashers, I mean do you think they A. Take their time and B. Use the best wash media....I'd say no and besides, if your on this site you wanna start that brand new ride off on the right foot, especially a black car!

I read someone suggested Collinite #845 and I can't argue with that but at the very least, wash, clay, some type of polish/cleaner, sealant and maybe finish with some Collinite #845.
