I was taking some reflection shots inside the garage for a product reveiw (Hydr02). This would have been my first.

I took these 2 shots.

I was still in a crouch position. While I was checking the photo on the camera, I heard a big bang followed by a sound of something hard hitting the back wall.

The spring on the garage door snapped.

A bracket flew off and hit the back wall. This would have been my face if I was standing up.

Wow. That is pretty dramatic for my first attempt at product review.

BTW.... Hydr02 was great...:)

It's fate that you should become a devout follower of Carpro now!!!

Glad you're ok buddy!

Me too...

Thoughts on product?

The look of Hydr02 reminds me of Cquartz (gloss and glassiness). It also gives the surface a very slick feel (again...similar to another CarPros product - Reload). Durability is said to be around 3 months. I probably will fall below that since I didn't strip my LSP prior to Hyd02. One aspect that stood out is the claim of a Hydrophobic Surface. It certainly lived up to it. I never seen water roll off a car that easily with a blower.

I will do a full review once I get my garage door fix. The wife and I was thinking about replacing the garage door before winter but I guess we are moving it to the top of the list now. The Rupes will have to wait.

Man that is scary stuff glad you weren't hit!

Had a cable slip from it's cable lock on my old door. The spring snapping back together swung up and hit two 8' florescent tubes... I heard a bang then a pop pop and it got dark! Didn't know right off what had happened, couldn't see sh!t but spots...

thought I'd been shot there for a couple seconds

Those springs are very dangerous for sure!

Great thread.
How much of the hydro product do you use per vehicle?

Happy detailing...:autowash:

About 50ml. I am using a bottle sprayer. I do believe I could use 50% less product if I do this indoor and use a compressor with a sprayer attachment.

Upon closer inspection, the spring broke into 2 pieces. Actually, it did take out a light fixture. That's why the pics of the spring seemed a bit dark. Yes!!!! Those springs are dangerous.....

Right place at the right time......very lucky indeed!! :props:

Glad to hear you're OK. I've heard horror stories about those springs. My garage doors have the springs along the tracks, with a cable running through. Doesn't look like a very big cable though.

Definitely worth running the safety cable thru the springs, I had one break right after I closed the door and it put a much bigger hole in the wall than pictured, if it had waited just a couple of seconds to break that's where I would have been standing.

OP I don't think I've ever seen one break in the middle, usually they break at the loop on the end.

I knew a guy that tried to work on his garage door spring and ended up losing most of three fingers. That's one part of the house I won't touch if it needs work.

Close call!

I've been considering the Hydro2. Do you have to strip the previous lsp before spraying it on?

that is scary dude!

i am so glad that carpro saved your life! if you ever plan to worship something, i think that bottle of hydro2 should be on the list...j/k :p

I didn't do it but it is recommended to maximize durability. Corey tested Hydr02 over a LSP. At the conclusion of the second month, he noticed that the sheeting action has slowed but the beading remains. I will monitor it to see if my result is similar.

The following pic is from his review.

2 months since application. Vehicle is dirty . Not washed in a long time. Maybe once since application.

The wife and I bought the house last year. This is an old house (built after WW II) and the garage door set up is from the 80s.
I am currently shopping for a new door and opener. I will make sure the new set up has all the updated safety features.

Mine is not a cable. It looks like a rod.
