Microfiber detailing towels

How long does a cobra towel last? I mean how many uses do they survive before they start linting or do they just go on?

Looking to buy some Cobras next month specifically the miracle shine and the guzzler HD. Although I pressure wash my car once or twice a month and thats when I shall be using the guzzler. For rinseless washes Ive locally made 400gsm microfiber towels which do the job perfectly.

Ive the Meguiars waffle weave drying towel which is not that great, as it requires two towels to dry my entire hatch that too after hosing off most of the water. Will I benefit from the guzzler in this case?

Would like to hear your thoughts and experiences.

From experience, the green Cobra waffle weaves are very good. I bought these:

The Supreme Guzzler Waffle Weave Microfiber Drying Towel by Cobra is a medium size drying towel for cars, compact trucks and SUVs.

Typically it would take 2 of these to dry my mid sized cars, but then, I follow up with the final drying with one of these:

Cobra Deluxe Ultra 600 Microfiber Towel, microfiber buffing towel, microfiber drying towel, detail towel, micro fiber

This so far has worked for me. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Even my friend was suggesting the green one as he has that. Takes him only one of that to finish his hatchback.

I had no idea about the purple ultra plush towels. Seeing them for the first time on AG. Sweet. :D

Where's all of the fools that claimed that costco/sam's club towels were good enough for paint and that buying 530/600/700gsm towels were a waste of money?

The Sam's Club ones (short nap side) work well for removing compounds and polishes, but beyond that, they really aren't much good on paint.

I have a bunch of the Super Soft Deluxe Microfiber Towels with Rolled Edges. They were great when i got them. After about 3-4 washes of the towel they didnt feel really all that soft at all anymore. Almost like the fibers started to clump up. I only wash them in dedicated MF detergent. I either use the CG detergent or the BlackFire MF wash. They only ever touched my paint and never anything dirty to cause them to get all funky. I have other towels that have had same amount of use and same washes and still feel super soft.they were great at first but quickly turned into all purpose towels and no longer for paint.

Thats the issue with costly MF towels. If after using them, I find them losing their softness over a period of time that is lesser than how long my local mf towels last, I shall continue to buy the local ones. The manufacturer is slowly getting his products right, with one of India's most plushest microfiber towel. Which is less plush than cobra, but is catching up in quality.

At $6 for the plushest ones locally, the cobra becomes the more exotic type of towels with the total landed cost upto 3 times the US price. Still have ordered the Cobras. Eager to get my hands on them.

Best microfiber for the $.

Kmart: "Detailers Choice" 3.99 nylon bound, f'n huge, 2'x2', blue
The yellow one is more costly and they are both advertised as drying towels.

Hey guys

Is it a good idea to do rinseless wash with a waffle weave towel like guzzler?

No. You want the towel you're using for a rinseless wash (or a waterless wash) to have a fairly deep pile, because it is that pile that will help the dirt away from the paint. A waffle-weave has virtually no pile, so any dirt it picks up just lays on the surface of the towel, almost certainly scratching the paint that it comes into further contact with.

Thanks for the info. i shall be more careful from now on.

:iagree:

heres an forum friendly example of the deep pile on a 16x16 silk edged MF:xyxthumbs:

Gold Plush Jr. Microfiber Towel, gold detail cloth, buffing towel, microfiber buffing towel, micro fiber

Those are nice towels no doubt, but a bit pricey to be relagated to rinseless wash duty. Is there a cheaper alternative?

yes, i was just giving you a visual example of what we were talkin in the thread.

These will also last indefinitely if taken care of for just washing... i believe you get what you pay for and if you divide the estimated number of years or uses you will get out of a towels they are pennies in the lager scheme of things.

you can PM me if you want other reccommendations :)
