It will be a matter of preference. I like the Meguiar's line and they have been around since 1901

Spend some time on the forum and I promise that you will learn a lot about what products work the best for the task at hand.
There is not one brand that excels in all areas, but some like Meguiar's that come close in a lot of them.

BTW .... I can assure you that Turtle Wax does not qualify as the best at anything with the exception of being cheap. Plus they do not even sell all of the products necessary for proper detailing.

Thats like asking what is the best tool brand, every brand has their strong points and every person has their preferences. If you limit yourself to one brands line across the board, you miss out on other brands specialties.

Meguiar's is one of the oldest names in detailing and offers the widest selection of quality products.

Mothers is another great name on detailing products and like Meguiar's can be purchased locally.

Chemical Guys has a product lineup that is breathtaking and their products like Meguiar's and Mothers work superbly....

This man speaks the truth for sure. You can really do amazing things even if you have mediocre products. You just have to know how to use them.

My cousin avoids holograms using a Dewalt and 3M compounds and polishes on black car paint, after wet sanding the orange peel off a newly painted car lol

A discussion about what is the best has to many variables in detailing autos, much of the discussion revolves around subjective evaluations of products, prices, the longevity of a product, perceived finish, to name just a few.

Every product you can choose will have people that love it and hate it, everything is subjective. Skill level is important because some products require higher levels of expertise for them to be applied successfully. The equipment you have has a bearing, some products need power equipment.

There`s many good products from many Mfg`s. Pick a product that fits your level of expertise and one that has the longevity that you can live with, there may be a great product but if you have to spend large amounts of your time to get the desired results it quickly becomes to laborsome and time consuming.

For me I want a wax/sealant that lasts min. of 4 months. And for upkeep I need to have a Liquid spray wax applied every 1 to 2 weeks to keep up the shine and a spray detailer I use 2 times a week sometimes a bit more. I now use Meguiars and Collinite 845. I may change if I find something that works better or last longer. Do a lot of reading here and other forums and you will slowly work things out.

It is often more appropriate to try to find which is NOT the best - there are a lot of very similar products with different stickers on them with only a marketing man to justify sometimes massive price differences!

Test for yourself and be very wary of brands with forum fanatics talking them up.

That's like saying what is the best water?
There are probably as many different brands of car care products as there are bottled water, truth be known.

You want to stick with tried and true, you can't go wrong with Meguiar's or even Menzerna, both are over a hundred years old. (Actually Menzerna is older than Meguiar's but Meg's is an American company which has been known here for much longer.)

You didn't say if you are looking for over the counter, or you would be buying online. OTC you're going to end up with Meguiars and say Mothers. Plenty of good Mothers products, but I'd lean towards Meguiar's most of the time. Can't go wrong with either though.

Now when you start talking about what is available HERE on AG that is a totally different matter.

Meguiar's of course, and the selection is vast and then some.
PBMA house brands, Blackfire, Wolfgang, Pinnacle, Detailers Pro have a lot of good stuff.

There are some specialty products from those here and there, say Car-Pro for instance, or Optimum. Both have some EXCELLENT products!

Chemical Guys a lot of guys like (not my cup of tea although I have a few items) but if you try to navigate their website it's BYZANTINE in nature.

As in:

And so it goes. So yeah... it's like picking the perfect glass of water.

I've fallen in the past into the same trap that many before me and since have fallen into... Trying every new product that gets a favorable review.

I have learned a very valuable lesson. Don't get caught up in the hype. Stay within one family of products and perfect your technique until your results are consistent every time. Practice until you can do it in your sleep and get the same result every time.

I suggest Wolfgang, pinnacle, optimum, or Meguiars. Especially Meguiars. If you buy dozens of polishes you will never perfect using any of them.

In fact now that the Rupes system is now been unleashed their marketing model is exactly what I'm talking about.

They market their products as a system that works together. From polisher to backing plate to pads and polishes...you don't need anything else.

It makes sense and saves money in the long run.

Do you know who makes all the brand names? Do you know who else those manufacturers supply? Not naming names but there are numerous brand name products which are manufactured by third parties who also supply lesser brands which you do not know. People often lump the lesser brands in as 'average' simply because they do not have online presence, do not have forum spokespersons, don't incentivise big name detailers to use their products, don't spend big money on marketing. In the UK, there is one big brand which sells 3rd party manufactured material, material also sold by numerous others under different labels yet somehow there is a firm belief that the big brand products are the best. Just because there is a big brand and lots of fanboys does not guarantee the products are any better than smaller brands who don't shout out.

I do want the Meg's M101 though lol

Hope I don't fall into this trap anymore than I already have haha

On another note: I have worked with 3M professionally and I am very comfortable with it. The compound and the polishes.

But want to try the M101 because I could recommend it to my cousin so he only has to do 1 step after wet sanding.
