BlackIce with a DA Polisher

I've watched the video about using a DA polisher to apply the finishing wax. In the video the wax comes out/slides out of the container in one solid piece. My problem is the 3 oz. container of BlackIce wax was in several pieces when I first took the lid off. Is there anything that I can do to get it back in one piece? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Use a butter knife or something like a Popsicle stick to scoop out some product and apply it to your pad. BlackIce appears to have a consistency unlike other paste waxes, so the typical method doesn't really apply.

It's pretty easy to get the wax out of the full size jars, sometimes I heat the outside with a heat gun for the initial removal, a hair drier would work too.

I've never tried to remove the wax out of a sample pot. Even if the wax was in one piece I don't think it would work and I wouldn't even try.

Exactly, you can see a picture of this on page 130 or my how-to book. In the how-to book I clean the handle of a PC wrench, because I usually have a PC wrench with me when detailing cars and if you look at the handle of a PC wrench, it's wide and flat and works pretty good for getting some wax our of a jar and spreading it like peanut butter over the face of the pad.

BlackIce appears to have a consistency unlike other paste waxes, so the typical method doesn't really apply.

What I've shown is to use a small foam finishing pad on either the Griot's Mini Polisher or the Rupes 3" air polisher and then simply place the face of the pad inside the jar and blip the on/off switch a couple of short bursts.

The air compressor was turned off for the night by day shift so we simply switched over to the Griot's 3" mini polishers with 4" Rupes white foam finishing pads to machine apply the Blackfire BlackICE Montan Hybrid Wax. Anyone that's ever worked with me knows I do everything by machine unless it's just not practical or impossible.

Removing the wax
After allowing the wax to dry to a haze we carefully wiped the wax off using microfiber gloves and clean, soft microfiber towels...

Just finished machine waxing the entire car with Dodo Juice Hard Candy...

And because I'm a machine guy, I machine applied the Hard Candy using the Rupes Mini Polisher. So except for wiping clean decontaminating the paint, all the rest of the steps were all done my machine.

Tomorrow Yancy will get the video up and I'll take some beauty shots before this beauty has to be returned to the owner.

Thanks Mike...I guess my next purchases will be the Griot's 3" polisher and the 4" Rupe pads.

They fit good, not perfect but the footprint or size of the face of the pad is large enough to get teh job done.

The Rupes 4" pads actualy work pretty well on the Griot's 3" polisher. Get the soft white finishing pads.


I'll post some pictures of us using tihs combo of tool and pads on this week's project cars...

Or.....instead of spending money on a Griot's 3" DA polisher, could I just get a 3" backing plate for my PC 7424XP??? Would that work?

Tippy - Using small pads on comparatively large tools


You will hate trying to apply a wax with a 4" pad, on medium speed setting using a full size DA Polisher.

You will love how easy it is to hold, support, maneuver and use a Griot's 3" mini polisher with a 4" pad to machine apply a wax.


Note I wrote this before the Rupes polishers, chemicals and pads were introduced to Autogeek.net. The 4" Rupes pads are tapered and fit into a 4" wax jar better than non-tapered pads. FWIW
