I successfully landed a detailing job at a large dealership.

When I hear Rotary I automatically imagine wet sanding. These places need to invest in a DA

My little PC Champ, can handle a lot of work. Yeah it takes longer, but ehh I love it.

(Probably how one always love's there kids) lol

Porter Cables are just way too underpowered imho. Theyre good when paired with the PC brush tool to clean carpets.

In a dealership enviroment a Porter Cable will get you FIRED !!! ....or at the very least made fun of and called a sissy :o

Out of all the things you can tell some one it.

would be work slow, take your time, work wet,use good rags/mf.

IF O.P. tells this to his new boss he'll get himself FIRED!!!

As George Zimmerman once said:

"I guarantee it!"

;)

Well today I found out the hack work they do.
Disapopinted
But when a car has made sale they go the full 9 yards to make it perfect
They use Menzerna PG1000 and FF3000
And wash the car after polishing as they do not seal with a wax

(Obviously to save time)

Work expects 2 cars per person per day
Day = 8hrs
So 4hrs to detail a car inside and out

To me this sounds impossible to do professionally
But you gotta work to pay your bills

Just depends on what you're trying to do...

I use them all the time with great success. I use them to remove swirls and I love them for machine applying waxes and sealants. I can't remember the last time I actually waxed a car by hand.

In fact, I think everyone that's into detailing should have a Porter Cable 7424XP or one of the variants of this tool. Plus a rotary buffer and a Flex 3401 if they're doing product detailing. These three tools are like the minimum for a tool supply.

Add a Rupes Bigfoot and if you start out with a full size rotary like a DeWALT then later on add the Flex PE14.

If you start out with a Flex PE14 then later on add a full size rotary buffer like the DeWALT 849X

Too often I see people asking,

What's the best tool?

There is no "best tool", there's best tools...

Also, the PC is a great tire cleaner, I never clean tires by hand anymore, I always do it by machine...

Best darn tire cleaning brush I've ever used!

doesn't sound impossible for a mid level detail, im guessing they didn't hire you to do full paint corrections and complete leather rejuvination treatments.

its enough time to get the dirt off the interior, shampoo the carpets, and clean and do minor corrections using a decent all in one/one step product to remove some damage while sealing at the same time.

you should be glad they aren't wanting 2 hours per detail, ie, vac the carpet, spray febreeze, wash, and dry with a spray wax = done.

I know there are not many that will give you an attaboy for taking this job BUT it is a good place to start getting your experience and you get paid for training and practice. From there you can experiment with do's and don'ts. It can even help you before (and if) you go on your own. Paid learning is never a bad thing. It will be tough though as the more time you take doing a "better than good enough" job, the less money the dealership will make on the final sales price. So go get em and get paid to learn :)

Good advice Kevin.:goodpost:

:iagree: I gave him an attaboy too Kevin :)

good job Flash :D

In a perfect world this would be a great idea. However, they are not going to wait on you to 'practice' on junk yard panels before staring the job. The way most dealerships operate expierence is not necesasry.... You just learn as you go....and you better learn to work quick too!!! (as in 5 cars per day)

O.P. This will be a great oppurtunity for you as far as expeirence goes. Let them pay for your mistakes :-I

:goodpost:

I figured he had his own Rotary, (don't we all?) lol

Everyone should have and know how to use a rotary. It's not rocket science afterall

:/ no, i don't have experience on a rotary... :wow: :(
