thanks

I would rate the Clear Coat on my Ford F150 as medium at best. I would definitely agree with Mercedes and Corvette being hard. I would be interested to see it any detailers on the forum have any experience with Lamborghini and what they think about the hardness of it's clear coat.

Thanks Gary. The clear on my mustang isnt probably medium at best too.

This is going to be some valuable stuff. Thanks for doing this.

No problem.

Jaguar XK8 was extrememly hard, Saab 9-3 medium, Acura RSX was extremely soft, and an 03? Lexus RX300 I thought was pretty hard.

Perhaps you should modify it to
Toyota/Lexus (as their clearcoat will be the same)
Honda/Acura
Nissan/Infiniti

I've noticed that German cars have very hard clearcoat, as well as some domestic. Japanese cars seems to have their clearcoat soft. Not sure about Korean. By the way, nobody ever posted Hyundai/Kia detail. I guess owners of those cars don't really care about their finish...

I have a Mazdaspeed6 built in japan and the clearcoat on my car is medium. About the same as my expedition.

D&D- Thank you. Some of the info I knew or suspected. The list is very good to have.... perhaps it can be expanded and made into a sticky?

Very good idea... I tried the same thing (without the fancy chart though :p) on another detailing forum but there were maybe 3 responses... so this is great for me as I always thought it would be neat to have some sort of chart to go by, before doing a detail.

I have one suggestion before I post my experiences... from my experience and from hearing others', it seems like different years and sometimes even different models within the same year and from the same maker, have different hardness in their clears... I would suggest you leave the chart soft, medium, hard (in my post on the other forum I put 1-5, 1 being softest) but in addition to the chart, people should post all the info on the vehicle, such as year, make AND model...

with that said...

2003? Nissam Altima SE-R... very SOFT
2002 Audi A6 4.2L... HARD as a rock, just like all audis I've done
1999.5 Audi A4 1.8t.... HARD like above
2004 Porsche 996 GT3... MEDIUM, on the softer side though
1998 BMW M3 E36... HARD, like most BMWs I've done
2004 BMW 530i E60... HARDer than the E36 M3 but close
2005 Audi S4... HARD as well
2006 or 7 (I forgot) Nissam Maxima... SOFT... very soft
2003 Jeep Liberty... MEDIUM
2002 Toyota Camry... SOFT
2005 Toyota Corolla.... SOFT

Thanks for the info. Im not sure if I want to break it down by year and model yet.

Id say Land Rover is medium. Anyone else agree?

I have a 03 Black Cobra. How do you rate the clear on these cars? It seems like the way you stated this that maybe just a touch softer than medium. Does this sound right? Just looking for some info on my cars clear.

Thanks
Chuck

Thats was a poorly worded sentence. Id say its somewhere between soft and medium. But more on the soft side.

Thought I read on a Menzerna thread that Nissan had a hard cc. Correct me if Im wrong.

Not sure, havent worked on one personally. But everything Ive read on here has said soft.
