Hello everyone,
I recently had my GTO painted to replace my vinyl stripes that were coming to the end of their life. I had the vinyls removed and painted the stripes, painted the roof black, and added a strip on the side with a red out line for an accent color.
I finally had time to detail it. Here are the steps I used, I used McGuire's for most of it.

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Fine cut compound
4. Glaze
5. Polish
6. Wax
7. Sealant

I did the same thing for my wife's BMW.

I'm really happy with how good it turned out. My wheels need a little attention but right now I'm way to tired to get to them.

Not knocking your work because the car looks great but you probably didn't need a glaze on newer, maintained paint. Also, did you get the original wheels from the prvious owner (GTO, ofcoarse)

Yes I still have the original wheels in my attic.

I wasn't sure if I needed a glaze or not since I used a compound to clean up some of the overspray I found on it.

Did the previous owner put those wheels on the car when you got it?

No I put them on about a year ago.

Put those stockers back on the goat!

That's kinda what I was getting at too. I'm sure the OP likes them or he wouldn't have gotten them but they don't fit the Goat one bit in our opinion anyways, the character of the wheel doesn't fit. Mesh wheels on the Beemer on the other hand, perfect!

Well we all have our opinion on what fits the character of the goat and what doesn't. Ether way it doesn't matter because I like them and the way they fit the car. I do however appreciate the input.

Funny you mention the wheels on the BMW....I've never really been a fan of them because I think they are boring. To each his own I guess...

The cars look great. However, I just thought I would throw something out there about your process. After compounding, you should have went straight to polishing. By applying a glaze, and then polishing the car, you're not only going to remove the glaze, but you're now polishing paint with something on it which just clogs up the pores of the pad (assuming you're using an open-celled foam pad). Also, a sealant needs to bond to bare paint with a glaze coming after, and then topped by a wax to extend the life of the glaze (assuming you're using all three products). So based on the process you listed, it should have looked more like this:

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Fine cut compound
4. Polish
5. Sealant
6. Glaze
7. Wax
