Hey Fellow Geeks,
Finally got some time to detail my chevy 1500 or as the Mrs. calls it "Moose". Couple quick questions. Since Im not ready to place a large order, Im looking into going to wally mart to get some chrome polish i.e mothers for my bumper and wheels. Do you guys think that will do the job w/ the powerball attachment? Also for my headlights, I don't want them to fog up like my little tacoma so thinking of opti coating those today as well. Im just going to clay and seal, thoughts? Thats all for now. First time detailing this truck and Im excited beyond belief. That being said, its a pain to wash and not looking forward to clay, fortunately I have the autoscrub which used on a friends car. It works wonders!!! Cant wait to post some pics up here. hopefully be done with the truck by tonight.

Also for my headlights... Are the lights starting to oxidize? If they are in good shape just wax them along with the rest of the truck.

Just a thought. Break down the truck into sections ie; Complete the hood and front fenders in one session. Next week the drivers side and tail gate. Then finish it passenger side and roof in the last session plus wheels.

If your going to buy your stuff at Walmart for now and only want to clay and seal why not buy a bottle of Ultimate Polish, that way you can polish your finish and lights after claying for just another $10.00.
Then seal as you mentioned.

Good Luck!

Headlights: No they are in great condition and want to keep them that way. Should a sealant do the trick on lights?

As far as rest of truck, going to keep her garaged till Friday morning to clay, polish, and seal her. Too much going on today sadly.

Thanks for the help gentleman

If you want to Opti Coat them fine but just wax them every few months or more frequently if you do your car that way. Most here wax pretty much monthly. Wax has UV protectors in it which will protect the lens. Most new lenses go for several years before the factory coating starts to fail.

If you're planning to seal the truck then by all means do the headlights.
