I just wanted to post a thank you to all of the autogeeks for their help and knowledge. I had zero background in detailing before I found this website. With the help of the members and all of the how-to's, here is the result of just the hood of my wife's mustang. Previously, there were heavy swirls and scratches throughout the entire car. The hood has taken me 10 hours to do (learning curve and trial and error), but it is now swirl free!

My process:

1. Washed and dried with two bucket method and microfiber mit/drying towels.
2. Clay bar with Meguiars clay bar kit.
3. Scratch removal with Meguiar's Ultimate compounding solution and scratch x 2.0, done with a drill and meguiar's da power system tool using Mike Phillips videos.
4. Meguiar's Ultimate Polish with the power tool.
5. Colinite 845 applied with the DA power tool as well.

I know the process would have been easier if I had purchased a porter cable but I already had a drill and saw excellent reviews to the power system tool. I'm incredibly happy with the results. I have a few other issues that I'll get to AFTER i do the rest of the paint. Until then, thank everyone once again!

Glad you got a good result...now do yourself a favor and take that dealer plate off the front!

Will do! Just waiting for the license plates to come in!

Is the second pic of the hood (the closeup) a BEFORE or AFTER?

Before, I just figured out how to attach pictures so it came second.

Nice Job!

How did you like the power system? did you ever find a corded drill or stick with cordless?

Which pads did you use with which products?

Thanks for posting the results!

Hey Becciasm,

Nice Job!

:thankyousign:

How did you like the power system? did you ever find a corded drill or stick with cordless?

I did! I actually had one in the back of the garage I had never used. The cordless would work for applying wax, I just needed higher rpm's for cutting and polishing. The cordless topped out at 1500, and the corded went to 2500. It made the world of difference.

Which pads did you use with which products?

For the Meguiar's compound and scratch x 2.0, I used the burgundy pad. For the polish, I used the yellow. For the wax, I did it by hand as I couldn't find the black finishing pad in stores.

Thanks for posting the results!
