how do I keep brake dust off wheels ?

Isn't there a company that makes a plastic wheel shield that fits between your wheels and your brakes? I mean if someone really wants to protect their wheels, this seems like a good first start and it would also make cleaning the wheels faster and any "protection product" applied last longer.

Of course with this option you won't be able to see the pretty brake calipers.

:)
They not only hide the "pretty brake calipers" but are also purported to inhibit proper brake cooling. Not a good thing.

Yeah I don't know about that as I've never used a set. I've seen them and they "looked" like a good idea.

I guess some research into the topic would be of value.

See how wonderful discussion forums are? They bring out all the little tidbits about a topic for everyone to discuss and then finally come to what I call a,

How about converting the disc brakes to drum brakes, you might lose performance but you would get rid of most of the brake dust problem.

:D

I use a California duster and follow with Mothers detailer every day (unless rain) to keep them looking slippery clean. I wax them every few months after a good cleaning.

^Mine are pretty easy to take care of compared to some others out there though.

The best solution is using different brake pads.

Brake dust is a way of life with german cars. You can switch to ceramic pads which will help a lot.

I didnt read Everyones post completly so sorry if its a repeat.
Change your pads? Ebc makes good ceramic pads that cut the dust to 20% of what the factory pads were for my golf r.

Sealants and coatings will only go so far. So why not look at the SOURCE of the dusting!? Only seems logical.

Like to not put swirls in your paint, just don't wash your car with a mitt, sponge, towel, brush, et cetera. Or to not get tire dressing sling, don't apply a gel or thick tire dressing.

I'd tactfully explain the physics of the problem, and perhaps research some lower-dusting pad options for'em. In any case, it's always going to look bad, because YOUR cleaning took the wheels to such a pristine state before THEY dirtied them by driving and braking.

Cool. Colored Brake Shields.

I wonder how a set of red ones would look on my truck behind the black wheels? Front and back as I have rear disc brakes...

I wipe my wheels clean every other day so they never really get dirty though...

The wheel design is easy to wipe clean by hand, even between the spokes.
