So it was time once again for me to detail my buddy Hectour's 2008 MS3. The car got hit in the d/s rear quarter panel in the winter and repaired quite nicely I must say but as with most bodyshops they did a crappy job of removing the overspray, so this was a priority of my buddy Hectour. I would've done this car sooner but time never seems to work out, not to mention Mother Nature this spring (did we have a spring even) So I got to do this car this past Sunday, arrived before him and his family woke up, around 7 a.m. and got to it.

The Process:

1. Did a DG rinseless wash, the car was pretty clean but I wasn't going to take any chances.

2. GG clay bar. The area's Hectour told me about were really bad but the GG clay bar did its job.

3. Pulled out the 3" GG RO, set it to speed setting 6 (there is NO other setting to use with this machine), put on one of their orange pads and reached for M101, first time using it. I did the bumpers, mirrors and lower body kit with it. Once finished I grabbed the 6" GG RO to do the rest of the car, used speed setting 4.5 on everything but the body panels that were done by the bodyshop 3 monthes prior, for those I just dialed it down to 3.5.

4. Re-washed the car with DG rinseless, wiped down the engine bay and re-cleaned the tires and wheels too.

5. Pulled the car across the street, under a shade tree and applied DG #501/601 to the entire car.

6. Finished the car w/ Collinite #845.

7. Applied Pinnacle Black Onyx tire gel to the tires.

Conclusions:

This was the first time using the M101 and I must say I have a new friend, this stuff is amazing! It made the metallic silver paint on the Mazda come alive, really "popped", just gleemed as you'll see in the pics. I decided to use the DG #501/601 because of its cleaning abilities and once again I couldn't have been happier with what it did for me! Finishing with Collinite #845 was a great choice and besides that, I wanted to see about durability as this car is washed maybe once a week and sits outside 24/7. I then showed Hectour why Pinnacle Black Onyx is THE BEST tire gel on the market, one application and the tires came out looking like that, he said now the tires look like the wheels, LOL!

I didn't take any "before and afters" and this was for a couple reasons, #1 the car is silver, you can't see anything anyways and #2 I like to get right at it, I spent 8 hrs on this car and half of the day was working in 90 degree heat, so it was the last thing on my mind. I'm going to try and have him post some of the pics he took of the car as well but here's my pics, taken with my cell, so there's NO special effects, just what the car looked like when I was done, enjoy:

I should've taken some pics in the shade but that would be cheating and other angles just didn't come out good, it was so sunny and the car shined in the other shots and they pics just didn't look right, so sorry, this is all I was able to take.

I imagine that was a lot of work but the results are fabulous! :props:

hmm..i think i've seen that Speed 3 driving around the Schaumburg area. Good work!

it was a lot of work but this is one of my best friends but he takes care of our fluid changes, brakes and light mechanical, so it all works out. Thanks for the props, I really appreciate it, everyone!

I don't have a PTG so I don't know what the thickness is. The d/s door, rear door and quarter panel have been worked on this past winter, so I know those areas are up tp par but not sure about the rest of the car. I know its good to have one of those machines but the cheapest one is $150 dollars but how good is it, really? Others I've seen to go for, well ad a 0 to the end of that, LOL! Using the 6" GG RO w/ the proper techique, not a lot of pressure and in general watching what I do makes me feel safe, this an RO were talking about afterall.

Vet, thanks for the props on the MS3 too!

For those who don't know and there are a lot, these cars scoot! This one inparticular for sure and it used to be even faster when it had a tune and FMIC but even still, they get up and go! Not only fast but handle VERY well, its a Mazdaspeed afterall. The front brakes are from a Volvo SUV, very large calipers (ah the joys of parts sharing back then when Ford owned a good chunk of Mazda and Volvo) I bring this up to let people know about these cars potential, they often get overlooked out there in the sea of STI's, EVO'S, Golf GTI's and R's and the new darling, Focus ST's.

Roger thanks! The car looks great! I'm really happy with the products you used this time around the metallic really shines in the sunlight; the car just glows! I will get some pics once I get it washed.

Tapatalking to you!

NICE WORK MY MAN  and clearly the owner is happy ^^^

what did you use for the vinyl underneath the front bumper? It looks nice and Dark! ... im curious about the durability

And is the vinyl step on the back bumper a diff color.. lighter grey?

strange if it is

I used nothing on the vinyl, the front was Plasti-dipped by Hectour and the vinyl step is the stock one for the car.

I must say that when I did the car last year I used NO polish, just BFWD and BFCS, preceeded by a rinseless wash and clay bar, ofcoarse. I believe the car came out better due to the fact that I actually machine polished the paint. It looks good in the pic but inperson the sliver looked plugged into an outlet or one of the custom silver colors on Forza4, LOL!

Looking forward to the pics Hectour, I wish I had taken some in the shade but I thought it would'ive been cheating as the paint looked really, really wett in that lighting and didn't wanna be accused of "doctoring the photo" with special lighting.

Finally Hectour, some pics! In the last pic it really brings it home with what we've been talking about for some time now about how the paint on plastic bumpers looks different than the rest of the car. Now I will say in person it isn't that drastic though, LOL.

Now you just need to post the other pics you've got and I'm pretty sure we'll have some more pics to take at the end of the week too!
