Wet Sanding BMW

Off topic: after we stopped on the BMW his lady was vacuuming his Chevy Cruze

As soon as she finished I started. I hit the wheels/tires/wheel wells with APC and my Mothers brushes. Then did the exterior using my little gun lol and 2BM. He was impressed with the CG wooly mammoth towel and how little water I was using (with the little gun) an how much it soaked up. (CG wooly towel)
And my drying aid technique using Pinnacle WW and shine it brought out.

He tried squeezing water out of the towel and nothing came out after drying his whole car! We both wondered how many cars it can dry, until water comes out.

You guys should try it. (CG wooly mammoth towel)

Had a blast yesterday lol

I could not find my last thread but the BMW is getting the full paint Detail. Orange peel sanded Off from repaint . This is a quick phone shot but I used my canon rebel for better shots.

I am on lunch right,

Taped it and covered it
So far clayed the car,l
And now currently wet and damp sanding

1,000-3000 the front end got repainted.

If you guys notice I did the headlights too lol plus clayed all the windows (not sure if I said that already lol)

I just switched to rotary (time frame, he said he needed the car by tomorrow.

So me and my cousin each used a rotary.

Mike what wool pad would you recommend for the Porter ? I used the MF pads and they cut better than my hex pads..

New Purple Foamed Wool Pad "IF" you were actually going to try to remove ALL the sanding makrs over the ENTIRE car using only a PC.

That would be so time-consuming, I know I wouldn't even entertain the thought.

There you go...

The rotary buffer is still the best option for complete removal of sanding marks in the fastest time.

:)

I have been unsuccessful uploading my canon pictures.

I talked to my uncle prior to using the Rotary about Holograms (it did feel really smooth using it however :D)

To the untrained eye the car does not look repainted, but now it is full of holograms. He told me last night "I need the car out by tomorrow" (he said it very kindly btw)

We were working and working and working in the dark using one garage light way in the corner and our cell phone lights. :D

Overall IMO what he got especially for free were good results. The PTG read something along the lines of 3+ mils for
(Sorry body shop lingo)

Here are some pictures from my phone I have a ton on my Canon Rebel but have been unsuccessful loading them up using the spare laptop, I am still building my PC.

Are those the after pictures? Some of those look like sanding marks still. Did you try finishing with the DA? or is that just using the wool pad?

^Those are just a wool pad on Jet Black Paint using a Rotary

(If you look at it to long then you'll find an imperfection) lol hard to explain lol)

This paint IMO opinion was very hard to work with.

I wanted to finish with my DA, but he insisted on having the car finally don ASAP.

No disrespect but that looks horrible. Either your technique is off or the wool pad was dirty and not cleaned often

Use some Menzerna SF 4500 on a blue or red LC CCS pad to jewel the paint and get rid of those holograms.

For free you think this is good? The holograms are beyond noticeable. You don't even need to stare at the picture for too long

The wool pad was very old, (probably years old) I had to prime it a lot before using it, he just wanted the car out.

It was very frustrating, but it was not my car, it was his.

So I worked with what I had...

After wet sanding it and "buffing" it out he was just happy to see it again.

I thinks it's unfortunate that for the BMW, your uncle, and yourself to have gone through all that just to give him the car back the way you did.

Maybe you should have your technique down pat before touching another car. You always mention body shop experience and this is the trade you learned?

Heres how i look at it.

Even though it could have been done better, the owner wanted it done right away and so if thats what he wants then so be it. I mean if someone comes to you and asks you to do a 1 step on his/her car in 5 hours im pretty sure corners would be cut.

Nonetheless, i have to agree with others in that the holograms and whatnot looks pretty bad. Although im pretty sure even if he did get it 100% perfect, its not like the owner is going to take care if it, so i assume

Oh and Art you should look into the Carpro Denim pads. Much easier to to level out orange peel with and the chances of messing up in terms of removing the orange peel are reduced substantially.

With such a short amount of time, I think I did a mediocre job.

At the same time, I would like to see what another AG member can produce wet sand orange peel, with years old wool pad, and a rotary, in 2 days (13 hours)

Can it be done? Yes I am sure

I shot those bad picture shots on purpose.

I was however complimented on 105 vs the 3M compound. (Longer working time)

If this was at a body shop then we would just wax the heck out of it, to hide any imperfections.

This car was repainted about 4 years ago.

I finally posted this as more of a rant, because it was very frustrating.

I don't want my work to be shown like that... Idk (SMH)

Thank You Blackhawk! this was more his request vs my doing.

I don't think any AG members would of taken a job like this without having the proper tools and supplies. I have practice wet sanding on scrap panels and compounding with my Da but no way I would I take a full job like this without the proper tools.
