Hey all, I currently have a Cyclo polisher but I'm thinking about buying a new Griot's 6" polisher to try. I have a few older single stage cars and have used Meguiar's M105 and M205 in the past.

I love this site but there is so much info its confussing! LOL

I was planning on buying this kit...
Griot’s Garage & Meguiar’s Paint Perfection Kit 3rd Generation!

But I have read that a lot of people like using the 5.5" pads. They don't offer a kit with 5.5 inch. So my question is...

Is there that much difference in the 5.5 compared to the 6.5? Should I just order the GG6 separate and not go with the kit? Then buy 5.5 pads & back plate?

Also,
My plan for my cars is;
Wash
ClayBar
Use GG6 with M105 and orange pad
Use GG6 with M205 and white pad
Wax by hand with Collinite 845

I would love to hear any thoughts.

Hi I am in the process of switching all of my pads to 5.5 and getting a 5" backing plate for my GG6 for use with the heavier compounds like 105. The 6.5 pads on the stock BP just don't seem to be efficient enough and it got fairly frustrating for me.
It's more so personal preference though

I find that 6.5" pads work fine with the GG6 with the stock backing plate. But, I'm not doing heavy correction the GG6 has no issue spinning 6.5" pads.

The issue I find with large pads is there is just too many areas they don't fit. If I'm polishing a car, I usually end up using all of these sizes: 3", 4", 5.5", & 6.5". I use whatever size works best for the panel.

:iagree:Just buy a 3.5" BP and some 4" pads for spot buffing and the tighter areas. The 4" pads work great for polishing glass and headlights. Oh, and you can use it to clean carpets and scrub your tires.

I just recently prushased the GG DA and use my 6.5 inch pads that I used with my PC, this thing can handle the larger pads where as my PC couldn't , well not in this way.
It has no problem when using 105 for corrections on SS.

You need to put a very thin coat of 845 on your car, otherwise it is a bear to take off.
Use a GG6 will help you get the thin coat, better than a hand job.

After I sent the message, I just knew that this comment was going to be made.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to give it a shot. I will try putting the 845 with the machine instead of by hand. I assume the blue pads will work ok for that.

Thanks again,
Dale

845 with a blue pad will work just fine. Oddly enough I did that today to my DD.

Will the hex logic 6.5" fit well with LC 5" backplate for gg6? Thinking of GG this route as it allow me to use both 5.5 and 6.5...
