For Manual Drivers, I thought this was funny!

////////// THIS!

OMG- we have a company car we use to go back and forth to NY for press checks. It's a 2010 VW GTI and has that weird, auto/manual transmission.
Long story short, the trans SUCKS! It's jerky and makes you look like you can't drive stick but you are in an auto??????

I've gotten into so many arguments here about it NOT being a manual... the fleet manager insists it's a manual because "it has a clutch"..... um, not one I can work myself! And where is the shifter?
Ultimately, you can use the flappy paddles, but the car WILL override your shifting.

It's NOT a manual!!!!!

MONNNNNICAAAAA!

Love the back up here for sure, but I was thinking this should simplify the confusion here:

1. Open up the drivers door

2. Get in and have a seat

3. Look down and count the number of pedals you have

4. If you count to 3, you've got a manual

Like the majority of the people out there, I will never be able to afford a supercar but let me say this, if I could afford one, I would go out and look for well maintained older one with 3 pedals. That said, in this dream I would have to own a yellow Ferrari 458 Italia and just "suck it up"!

Yes, it should be that simple.... my coworkers seem to want to complicate things.

LOL- loved the MONNNNICAAAAA

You like detailing, you drive a manual gearbox car with high heels: if you state that you master the Heel-and-toe and left-foot braking techniques and that you know how to cook, you are not real - you are an Internet bot! :D

My idea of cooking is going out :D
So no bot here.

Monica, a little off subject but then again not really, how would you and your husband like to join our Dragon run group in the fall of 2014? Your passion for driving is coming through here loud and clear and it would be great to have you guys out there enjoying the roads out there!

Damn man, that's so nice of you!
PM sent so we don't derail any more :D

No problem Monica and since this thread gets the attention of "true enthusists" either way this is a good place to let you guys/gals out there know about the Dragon, if you haven't heard of it. www.tailofthedragon.com is the official site and then there's www.killboy.com to view all the pics and "kinda" get a feel for things, if that's even possible.

I've been going down there every year since 2003 and will continue to do so, God willing, every year for the rest of my life. Whatever trans your running its driving nirvana but if you've got an auto w/o paddles, well its nowhere near as much fun, I will say that, especially the Cherahola Skyway, a 57 mile road that leads to the Dragon from Tellico Plains Tenn to Robinsville NC. That road goes to a mile high at one point and has steep grades all over the place, up to 9% in some area's, again, more need of a manual for sure! Then there's the Dragon and even though I'm all about the manual I will say there isn't as much shifting on the Dragon as there's a turn about every 60 feet, so if your close to redline your on the brakes anyway and your not shifting too much, I've hit the rev limiter a number of times out there on the Dragon and when that happens I guess I'm pretending I've got an S2K or RX8, LOL!

Having a manual on these roads really puts you in the zone, takes you to a place few get to experience but once there your "bit"!

I don't think I could drive the Dragon in an automatic.
You would light your brakes on fire.

I used to live not but 2 hours from the dragon. All I got to say is, watch the Police! its revinue heaven there now. Bikes, cars, your all get it. I used to live in Asheville NC, not tooo far away from there. If you look at the maps there are other roads that may not bes as famous as the dragon, they still rock for a drive. You should check out roads also around bat cave, Lake Lure and chimney rock NC. too bad they quit the chimney rock hill climb in 1995, that was always a lot of fun even if you didnt make the race, you could always find a good party.

I've heard about the cops being on the rise, actually I saw more last year than I did from 2003-2011, seriously! One thing I will say though is that I have never seen a cop on the Skyway but there are those marker lines painted on the NC side coming towards Robinsville. I've been running it at night the past 3 yrs and that's a lot of fun, especially when you've got a much faster car infront of you, use his head and tailights and go for it! I don't condone reckless driving when I say "go for it" either but rather its a matter of trust, trust the person infront of you to not go too fast and likewise he trusts you not to get too close to him. This has worked for me because my buddy has a modded MS3 and I have a CR-Z, so he's got triple the power I have, this really let's me explore the limits of my car (which isn't a lot) w/o getting into any trouble, I do side on the side of caution, my plate says CPT SLOW too, mainly because of my love for Top Gear but it also doubles as what my car is all about, something about driving a slow car fast...urrrr, quickly!

I love how the thread has turned into a Dragon thread, these things just happen, LOL!

Has anyone had any experience with Subaru's CVT transmission?

From what I can glean is that there are no shift points, just a constant increase in gear ratios. I guess it is similar to a "Salisbury Drive."

Just curious after seeing a brochure about Subby's.

Thanx...

I just drove one. It's a little weird not having shifts, but it is one of the better CVTs.

Our Subaru Cross Trek has the CVT and paddles. Played with them some, but like the rest,,I WANT MY CLUTCH AND GEARSHIFT! (Like the old I want my MTV shorts----(OH that would be when they actually played music and had HEAD BANGERS BALL!):awesome::righton::righton::righton:

It would be funny to see a series of commercials w/ racing stars and well know celbs that are known as "car people" saying "I want my 3 pedals". Head Bangers ball was very cool, so surely your a fan of "That Metal Show" then! Not the things are related but where have 3 pedaled cars, metal, rock and roll and testoterone gone???

Yeah buddy!
That's all I got :xyxthumbs:
Supraphysiologic-doses have decreased the "moodiness" my Wife had been experiencing here lately.

It's marked-down on my calendar as the best trip to the Dr.'s Office...(for her to acquire that script)...EVER!

:D

To the same place as leaded gasoline, vinyl records, and broadcast TV.

Well I caught the tail end of leaded gas, had an old 73' "Rustang" at the time (late 80"s), had 2 45's and that was it (Billy Squier "The Stroke" Rolling Stones "Waiting on a Friend") and as far as TV, well, that wasn't too long ago, LOL. I know what you mean though but insist that when they all go away (sticks) they will become VERY wanted, watch!
