Hi There,

I'm new to detailing and I would like to see what I have planed will work the best and would appreciate any input/advise.

Vehicle; 2000 White Ford F250

Condition; Neglected for past Few Years, hasn't been waxed for 2-3 years, swirl marks, no scratches, looking little dull, some orange peel.

Things im thinking of Purchasing;
Meguiar's Dual Action 6 Inch Polisher G110v2
Meguiar's Ultimate Compound
Meguiar's W 8207 7" Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Polishing Pad
Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
Meguiar's W 9207 7" Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Finishing Pad

I'm debating between Ultimate Wax, or Liquid Glass. But, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Sealant 3.0 & Klasse Sealant I was also considering. Any Suggestions for a white vehicle?

Also, Does anyone use Glazes?

One other thing, I have a black Weather Guard Tool Box, I think its painted or maybe powder coated. Could I use the Soft Buff Pads on it or will it make them fall apart? Compound & Polish be safe to use on it?

Any advise or input would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

The Meguiars polisher is a good choice, I would recommend going down to a 5.5" pad in either Meguiars or Lake County.

I prefer the Lake County Flat pads (5.5").

Ive never used the Ultimate line of compounds and polishes but I've heard people like it.

Personally I love WG DGS 3.0, its easy to apply and the protection an shine it leaves is awesome.

No idea about the tool box tho...

Good luck!

5.5" pads will work best with the G110v2. You will likely need up to 3 cutting and polishing pads, and maybe 2 finishing pads (8 total). Clean the pads as you go and you should be fine with 8 pads.

Before you do anything with a compound or polish, clay the paint first.

Megs UC line is good to start off with; inexpensive. Use MUC w/ a polishing pad on a test spot, and then on another spot use MUC with a cutting pad. You want to see which test spot "corrected" better. Then use a MUP pass on each with a polishing pad; now see which spot has better shine/gloss. If you think you can do better with another set of products (meaning, you are not fully satisfied), then come back here, post some pics of the test spots and I'm sure you will be assisted yet again.

The thing with Megs Ultimate line is that they leave a lot of oils on the paint. You will need to perform an IPA wipedown after you finish with MUP. Those oils will definitely interfere with any sealant or wax you use. I suggest you get Collinite 845 or Collinite 915. Either will serve you well with white paint.

As to your toolbox, try polishing by hand with Megs UP with a microfiber cloth or pad and use your intuition from there. Don't apply a lot of pressure at first and start in an inconspicuous area so that if you mess up, the box is still safe.

Thank you for the advice.

If I go with 5.5" Pads, would I need a 4.5" Backing Plate? Are Backing Plates universal or would I need an adaptor? Any Suggestions?

After test spots, I was under the impression I could use 1 pad on the whole truck to apply MUC, one pad for MUP, one pad for Wax(unless hand applied). Is this not correct?

If I get the Collinite, would that be applied right before wax/sealant? Is this like a cleaner?

I was going to clay it first with Meguiar's C-2000 Professional Detailing Clay, Mild with Quick Detailer.

Correct your paint, a DA is great way to start) Then after correcting it. Seal it.

Wolfgang is a house Line

However...

Menzerna is a professional line, so is Meguiars

I'm sure Wolfgang gets the job done, but my preference is the professional line of products. (Just personal choice)

If the paint is heavily swirled, and ford paint is rather hard I would suggest the Megs MF cutting pads and the MF compound. Then use a polish of your choice and slap a nice coat of wax on and admire your work.

You will need to perform an IPA wipedown after you finish with MUP. Those oils will definitely interfere with any sealant or wax you use.

The oils in UP is partly what gives the paint lustre and depth.

Meguiars states that any of their sealants / waxes are compatible with their polishes, with no IPA wipedown required in between.
