Leave a waxed car in the sun for 20 years. Will paint fail?

I have a 2012 Veloster that came with a "paint preservation treatment" that is "guaranteed" for the life of the car. It will be 2 years old in June and still looks great but I don't put a whole lot of stock in these systems. Comments on their effectiveness would be greatly appreciated. In other words, do they work or are they a ripoff? I didn't have to pay for it by the way.

Guess no one has an opinion (which I doubt) or doesn't care.

Usually it's a scam to get people to spend more money and they either are applying a sealant or coating of some sorts. But you got it for free so you can let us know :xyxthumbs:

Yes usually just a paint sealant that someone at the dealership puts on and many of them require re application every so often to keep the warranty (if the company is still around in several years) in place.

Providing the paint is restorable then yes, it can be brought back to life...As an example, I performed some restoration work on a 20 year old single stage paint job and thought it came out pretty darn nice.......:D

Just my two cents worth, but all the trashed older cars I see....are obviously not washed and waxed on a regular basis. Take care of your vehicle and it will take care of you. Just like a car that gets regular oil changes will run much longer than one that never gets one.

Not necessarily. I had a van that I took good care of until it was 3 - when the damned paint started flaking off. It didn't matter after that.

Bet it was a Dodge.

It depends on the paint. My 93 Dodge Dakota had paint failure by 1998 maybe 2000 at the latest. It flaked off down to the primer in several places on the roof. The paint was well taken care of and it spent a lot of its life in the garage.

I have had several 80 Nissans and Toyotas with factory paint that was still in good condition with probably very little exterior care. The Toyota beds were toast, but they were going to rust regardless of care taken.
