what order do you use?

Hey all.

In reading through many threads I often see that some people use the following process:
Option A
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Iron-X
4. and so forth

and other people use:
Option B
1. Wash
2. Iron-X
3. Clay
4. and so forth

So my question is this, what should come after the wash, paint decontamination using a product like iron-x first or paint decon using clay first. I personally go with Option A. Thanks for chiming in.

It would make more sense to use iron x before claying to get all the iron deposits off the paint before you clay. Helps make claying easier and faster while also being safer.

I wash, rinse, iron x, then rinse. I usually don't dry after the last rinse because I usually go straight into claying after iron x.

I subscribe to Option B. With option B the more expensive product (IronX compared to Clay) does the most work. As for washing or rinsing with either option you wouldn't need to if you were going to polish. That said, it doesn't hurt to be extremely clean and disciplined.

Mwoolfso - are you saying that iron-x has the ability to remove above surface contaminants and after doing iron-x and a Baggie test that the paint should feel smoother? My understanding was that iron-x was used to remove the iron particles and contaminants that clay can't which is why I was using clay first and then iron-x. If. Am wrong I would like to know because I want to make sure I am using my products to their best ability and in the correct order. Thank you everyone for your input. Keep it coming.

Great post. Just got ironx today and have never used it before. Would the order that you have recommended change if the car already has a fairly fresh layer of sealant to begin with? I guess my question is can ironx do its job or would the sealant prevent it?

Seems I may have killed this thread but I'm still asking. Can ironx penetrate through a sealant? Specifically near fresh WG 3.0? If not, wouldn't you want to clay and polish prior to ironx?

Its possible that iron x may remove some of the sealant. It wont do its job unless there is iron particles that need to be removed.

You are not "wrong" with your process. It's OK to clay first, then IronX. As I said before I'd rather the more expensive product do most of the work (if at all possible)
