I traded in my '05 Grand Prix for an '08 G8. LOTS of work needs to be done on this car and I can't wait to get started.

I still have a couple of write-ups I need to do for the Grand Prix (wet sanded some scratches, DP glass coating review) but for now here are some pics of the new ride!

Plenty of swirls...

More than a few scratches and scuffs that will need to be wet sanded...

I can't wait to get started on this thing!!!

Awesome looking car! Congrats on your purchase. Also wanted one personally.

Nice ride! By the way, I live in Crest Hill and work in Lockport. Would be nice to meet up some time!

Congrats! I've always loved the look of the G8's, and the performance also!

What color is that? Cyber Grey Metallic?

Cool...I live in the part of Homer Glen that used to be part of Lockport. I am just off 143rd and State. I plan on starting with wet sanding Tuesday morning and working different stages of getting this paint where I would like it throughout the week. PM me if you'd like to stop by and check it out. :dblthumb2:

Cool car! I love the G8. Good luck with the restoration. :dblthumb2:

Nice car...

From the pictures you posted, I have to ask... why on earth would you feel the need to wet sand?

Congratulations!
A way under-appreciated car. Full size muscle is so cool.
Hang on to that one.

I guess the pictures don't convey just how bad some of the scratches are. They definitely needed it. May have been able to do it with the denim or velvet pads but I haven't used them yet so I am not sure.

Tomorrow the compounding and polishing begins!! (full write up to come later)

Started compounding today. I got the "doghouse" done. Except for the front bumper...too rashed up. Just want to say that I tried the Optimum Microfiber Cutting Pads with D300...damn good pads and finish down really nice.

I've had good luck with M105/White pad for compounding and Optimum Hyperpolish or M205 with a white or black bad for finishing on my GXP.

The pics above really don't do justice to how beat up the paint is on this car. A white pad would be too mild to cut through the damage. The microfiber pads give the extra cut needed to clean this thing up. I like using the D300 compound because in my experience it has a longer working time and dusts less than M105.

One of these days I am going to experiment with the different methods for using M105 to help with its drawbacks.

I have always wanted to try the Optimum Hyper Compound/Polish...have seen to many negative reviews about the spray nozzles clogging up in the past. Have they worked this problem out yet?

Here are a couple of pics from the work yesterday...

Swirls for days...

What Swirls???

Though the sun pic doesn't show the hazing that still needs to be buffed out you can see it in the picture with the work light. Still a long way to go...
