Welcome, I'm fairly new here as well. The first thing that I learned here was that these types of questions will get a different answer from each person.
My best advice is to search for threads where people worked on cars similar to yours. (Same, make, model, color) And then see what worked...
Another noob here, but my guess is that going from the wool pad/compound to black pad/m205 is too big of a step. The black pads have no cut. If I were you I would try the m205 with a white pad and then see if you can get the swirls out.
