The 240z had a 2.4 liter the 260z had a 2.6 liter etc etc.... The new Z has a 3 liter. They just made the decision not to continue the name for naming sake I guess. Makes sense for the most part. The Germans obviously don't care as BMW and Mercedes number designations don't mean anything...
